T homas Rei ser had a good run go ing on h is 1600cc H arley, but he o n ly mad e it to th e ledge. H e had a good fir st run . bu t st uc k th e sh ifter into th e dirt at 500 feet a nd went ove r the bars. Peterson ca me to th e lin e for hi s seco nd run. There was a n S-sh aped ru t a t 500 feet th e had sto p ped Reiser 's fir st r u n . Pe terson tossed h is ap tly-na med "Boss H og " into th e "5" with hi s foot o u t and d id the on ly 200 horsep ower berms hot we've seen. H is aggress io n wa s rewarded with a 38.66 seco nd run th at wou ld gi ve him the overa ll. Roe ssler went over fa st a lso . H e h it the ledge in a crossed-up jump. Ia nd ed power-o n a nd roos ted o ver th e to p. Roessler tr ied again after th e last run , bu t a 40.56 second run was h is best. For the day it was seco nd best. Ron True blew th e gea rbox in his first run on h is hy brid th at uses two YZ490 cylinders on a handmad e cra nkca se. H e bo rrow ed R a v Br indo s ' H onda 1000, a bik e he ha d n ever ridden . H e ha d a good run to th e ledge, but th e stai rs tep th at h ad for me d tossed him ove r the bar s. We co uld see him silh ouetted aga ins t th e sky fro m 1100 feet down . H e was OK. Roessler went sideways o u t o f th e - ga te, bu t had a good run. It wa s seco nd fastest here as wel l. Peterson pi ck ed up Miller 's SIOOO a nd had a lready wo n th e 371-500cc Exp ert class. H e m issed h is first run , bu t h is sing le pass was nearl y 100 feet bette r th an seco nd -p lace r Dave Morris ' 480 H on da .
