APR. 10 Tom Webb put his 480 Honda project bike atop th e 400-rider field at the California Racing Club's Tenderfoot Enduro . 22 Webb posted a 2.95 score even th ough he crashed in th e spec ia l test o n loop two . One loop winner J ohn Lucas (Min i B) ed ged o u t Jim Polland J r. by o n ly one seco nd. 1.45 to 1.46. Th e T enderfoot wa s locat ed a t th e Rand Mount ains and o n Sunda y morning th e weather was co ld a nd wind y. Loop o ne turned o u t to be a easy trail ride but th e special lest had evervo ne but A a nd B riders droppin g o ne 'm in u te o r better . Finish ing up the loop was some good 01' fashion ridge runnin g and th e fin al chec k was abo u t half a mile from th e pits whi ch had so me riders co n fused. Fol lowing Lucas a nd Poll ard for 101' honors was Mike Chamberlain J r. wh o wa s four seconds behind Lu ca s. Sh auna Hopkins (200cc A-W ) finishe d sixth overall a nd fir st wom an rid er. At th e starting o f loo p two. th e route 'cha rt em p hasized a six mph sectio n right o ff th e ba t. T he riders had 17 minutes 10 go three m iles. What was thi s section? It turned ou t 10 be a rock v narrow crevice th at was wa shed away from the recent rains . The trail then dropped down waterfall lik e rocks and every one edged th eir way to wa rd s th e three-rn il e marker. The trail wa s prett y fast from th at point on , including the spec ia l test. The test wa s rat ed a t 36 mph with so me Iri cky uphills a nd down hi lls 10 add some spice. After th e specia l test the route rook everyone atop G overnment Peak and the narrow tra il th a t everyo ne loves. Coming back 10 ca m p th e riders h ad 10 sta y on th e gas throu gh a IS mph secti on for a bo u t four mil es. Th e loop en ded a bru p tly with hardl y a ny type o f a breath er for th o se last four mil es. Behind Webb fo r th e o vera ll was Track a nd Travel's Ken Lewi s Jr. Lewi s was al so a n Open AA a nd rides an o lde r Mai co . J ames Bartee was Ih ird. six seconds off Lewi s' lim e and 23 seco nds behind Webb. Western Airlin es pilot H arry Kea st (O pen AA Se n io r) co llected fourth with Kurt Butler . Ken Willah an . Ashcraft had a nice lead exiting the pits. bu t it disappeared when h e broke h is masterlin k. Bob Ashcraft interrupted his ow n race 10 ro w Dan in for help. R idin g like a h ung ry ma n . Si xberv took over the lead and bui ll up a good ma rgin whe n he got ba ck to Stea rns . Stearns had back ed off on hi s rebou nddampi ng and th e bike was handling much better. For th e next two laps th e team ex tended th ei r lead 10 fini sh five m inutes in front o f seco nd pl ace. Both riders were elat ed at the ir finish . In for second wa s th e KTM o f th e Zoll ers, Mark and Steve. They had su ffered a poor sta rt a nd had worked the ir wav from 20th 10 sixth o n th e firs t lap.
