CO, AP R . 10 In 70-degree weather and u nder partly cloudy skies. some o f the best hillclimbers in Colorado attacked Bacelite Mesa in Pueblo. The hill , 200 feet o f loose san d a nd din. took its toll on so me of the rid ers . At the I20· foot mark on the h ill . th e climbers were met with an eightfoot vertical cliff of loose shale rock. This was th e sto p ping point for m an y h opeful riders. Making the best ti me o f the da y. Curtis Mitchell topped the hill in sixpoint-three seco nds to cap ture the ove rall trophy of the afternoon. Cu rtis also won the Open motocross class a board h is 465cc Suzuki wit h two su per ru ns u p the h ill. The Exhibition class was so meth in g to see. T he bi g p add le-wheel bikes lea ve a rooster tail 20 to 30 feet in the ai r as th ey claw their way th rough th e din to th e summit. Bill Fodge took first place on h is 1435cc Kawasak i with two near-perfect runs. Rig h t behind Bill. Charles Ford captured seco nd on a 750 Suzuki an d Don Lockhardt fi nis h ed thi rd on h is big KTM. From the Minis to th e big Exhibition machines. a good cro wd of specta to rs enjoyed th e da y's racing with great enthusiasm. Each time a rider made hi s ride o ver the summ it, the cro wd let out a cheer of approval.
