Northern California-N.Ql:thern Ne"• . . • when Vlahos passed both of them for first and held the gas on to finish 12 seconds ahead of Godbee who displaced Fox to nail down second. Randy Chapman slid in for third while Jim Olson managed to hold off early leader Johnson for fourth. The second I 25cc Expert moto was history in Dan Dennis' mind as he .easily disappeared with a six-bikelength holeshot. Johnson, Pena, Chapman and Zeissler bumped each .o ther around for the other top slots. IKnocked over in a first lap mishap, . Vlahos was left on the ground and ' out-distanced by the pack. Not one to give up, Vlahos mounted his HiPoint sponsored Suzuki and put on a show that had the whole crowd on their feet. Vlahos was riding at a furious pace which had him whipping, flying and bouncing around the track desperately working toward the leaders. At the finish it was Dennis, Chapman, whose smart, consistent race left him with the overall win, and Johnson who was slowed by a broken exhaust. Vlahos' determined charge nettled him a fifth for the second position overall. The 250ccExpert class action was a virtual battle for the crown, as last year's winner Mike Holmes traded wins with Brian Wargo of Antioch. Wargo, who has been winning everything in sight, worked his way up in the second and deciding moto to narrowly win this year's title over Holmes. Hometown boy Randy Pockrandt gave Wargo and Holmes both a run for their money as he dogged them in both motos for third overall. Keith O'Neal won the opening moto of 125cc Novices and was running second in the other round until he got into some trouble and finished eighth. He still took second overall behind winner Tim Hanna. Vasco DeMello trailed with a 4-6 for third overall in front of . Shawn Frilling and Jim Bartnett. Tyson Vohland devasted the 125cc Junior class on his Honda and should be well on his way to the Expert ranks and what would appear to be a great . future in the Pros. Rod Harriger worked through the pack to take second with a 4-2 and Billy Brazil a reverse 2-4 over Woody Russell and Terry Callahan for an overall third. . Curt Dias won the first round of 250cc Novice class but slipped to a 10th in the second moto and fourth overall behind Jeff Sappington (4-2), Chris Davidson (2-4)with John Madrid, who came back from ninth in the first round to win the second. Rick Luther and his San Jose Honda aced both rounds of the 250cc Junior over former mini whiz Shawn Walkingstick and Al Rolls. Ron Naylor rode his YZ490 to both moto wins in the Open Junior class while Bob May held a pair of thirds for a second over Steve Parke and Dave Behnke. Randy Losh aced both ends of the Open Expert with relative ease after Concord Yamaha's Jerry Brandt fell re-breaking his collar bone. John Christian rode his Husky to a 2-2 second while Mark Hannum beat out Land Coleman and Jim Domenihini for third overall. The Vets had a good time with Brian Aldrich winning the Novice . portion on a Can-Am. Reversing the order for second was Vic Lundberg (1-2), while Gary Wada got a special mention for riding the only Montesa still in captivity. Gary McPherson aced both ends of the Vet Junior over Doug Little and Jim Musca. Charlie Smart had little opposition from Buzz Presser and Chuck Perkins to win the Expert round. .- CONGRATULATIONS, ...
