Jack Scott (49) leads Harley Hall at Corona's night MX. Jeff Martin leads the Arizona Championship 125cc Beginner class. battled through out th e race. Then , with on ly two la ps left, bad luck struc k when Woods ran in to a do wn ed rider . Owens cruised by wh ile Woods pul led o ff th e track. The wi n and overall went 10 Owen s foll owed by St. Clair and King. Honda of Redlands' David Church ran away with th e win in th e large 125cc Beginner class with a flawless I-I tally. Robert Cadwell (Suz) jumped into the lead at th e start of moto one while Church , Charlie Gonzalez (Yam ), Dean Keeling (Yam) and Jeff Longwith (Suz ) pursued. The two leaders began to pull away from the pack as they fought for the lead. It wasn 't until two laps from th e finish that Church made his move and in ch ed his way around Cadwell. Church held on for the win followed by Cadwell, Keeling, Gonzalez and David Spencer (Kaw). In moto two Cadwell again jammed to the front ahead of Church. However. it only too k Church only half the race before he had control of the lead. Church went on to take the win followed by Cadwell, Gonzalez, Mike Hogue (Ya m) and Spencer. before overta king th e lea d . T hird went to Sunwest Yamaha's Ri ck Vandcrham (Ya m ) wh ile fo urth went to J erry Black (KT M). Mark Brucks (H o n) used a 2-2 co m bina tion to wa lk away with th e gold in th e 250cc Beginner class. The four leaders kept wi thin a bikel ength of eac h other for th e first few laps. By th e third lap, Himmelr iech dropped out. handing second over to German. On th e same lap Andre snuck up a nd passed Mansfield for th ird. At that point. th e top three leaders dueled down to the fin ish . In the first moto, Martin took the early lead and n ever looked back. After a few laps h e had put five seconds between himself and David . Santa Cruz, in second. Fred Howard held Shawn Thompson and ' Kelly Turner at bay until the finish. After h is tremendous showing in th e first rnoto, Martin said are-run would make him very happy. The re-run sta rt ed to ta ke place after one lap in the second rnoto, Sean Colby and Howard were ahead of Martin. with Darrin Maures not far behind. Colby bobbled in a berm and both Howard and Martin slipped by. Martin took over soon after. Maures started to pressure Howard. but Santa Cruz came from nowhere to pass both for second. By the last lap Colby slid by for th ird. A local hero from the hills of Mayer. who's been in the Army and away from racing for two years. had the crowd on its feet with his consistent starts and constant dicing. Jim Riggle admitted h is stamina hasn 't been up to par since his la yoff. but he overtook Bob Blose's holeshot for the lead after four laps. Troy Blake began to push up from a mediocre start with Ron Watmore. Tom Witt and Rick Nagle jockeying for better positions. Both Riggle and Blose started 10 drop back. Now in the lead. Blake was churning out an amazing pace, while the rest knocked bars 10seconds behind. Watmore jelled out o f the pack, while Nagle cruised, wa iting for a mistake. Blose held off the hungry Will. while Riggle finished sixth. Second round actio n saw Scott Stallard pulling a quick lead. Blake made it a short one.
