It didn't start out like a record performance.
The 42nd Annual Daytona 200 wasbarely
threelapsold when Kenny Roberts pulled up in
the pits to check a tire. Bythe time he gotback
on the track, he found himself in the thick ofthe
slow traffic.
Heknew he had to make his move. Andhe

had just the bike to make it with.
By lap10 he'd moved up to sixth place.
Bylap13, fifth. On lap19 he took over first from
Yamaha teammate Eddie Lawson. Who, by the
way, provided Kenny with mostofhis competition
for the next33 laps.
