TO OUR RACING DEVELOPMENT The foreru nner to the AMA l25cc National MX Series was a one-day championship event held at Arroyo Cycle Park in southern California. Ray Lo pez took th e overall win . posting a 4-1 tally on a Penton. FiTSt moto winner Chuck Bower was also Pen~ton-mou nted. but dropped to a fift h in the second moto and wound u p secon d overall. Third overall went to Monark rider Danny Turner a nd his 5-2 tally. Yvon Du Ham el was lite primary pilot and. riding a Yoshmura-prepped 903. he set an unlimied record of 160.214 mph. DuHamel also went after th e 10- and lOG-kiloneter records. Two 903s were assigned 10 the task of going after th e 24-hour i:cord. One was ridden by Cliff Carr, Burley Wilvert, Masahiro Wada and Cook Neilson, G ary Nixon, An Baumann, J ohn Weed and Bryon Farnsworth were the riders on the other. Other than the unlimited time, no reco rd were released because the AMA bad not yet cert ified them.
