By Gary Van Voorhis o )I ' DAYTONA BEACH, FL, MAR. 13 Kenny Roberts, in yet another as tounding display of th e riding skill that has prompted most to regard h im as th e world' s p remier road racer, o vercame an early unplanned pi t 6 stop to win the 42nd Annual Daytona 200. The amazing ride by Roberts through traffic to I catch up ana then pass the leaders was the highlight of the event and a fitt ing jewel to add to Daytona International Speedway 's Silver An niversary celebration. " T he early lap pit stop to check what I thought. was a tire problem caused me to. abandon my pre-race strategy of wait and see," said Roberts while savoring the victory afterwards. At the finish it was Robert s leading his Team Yamaha/Marlboro partner Eddie Lawson to the checkered flag by a ma rgin of 52 seconds. Roberts and Lawson were bo th on OW60 square-four two strokes. Third fell to the consistent riding of Team Honda 's Steve Wise, aboard an FWS I,OOOcc V-4 four-stroke, while Canadian Steve Gervais, riding a Yamaha TZ750 for Castrol Canada, rode his way into fourth position.
