you can't develop a bike. In fact , Sheene says, "Kenny Roberts develop a bike? Kenny Roberts'd have diffi· culty developing a cold!" Care to comment? What Sheene is p la ying on this year is the year I spent last year trying to develop the Yamaha V-4 and what he has there is everybody's memory going only as far as the V. He's not remembering the old p iston port that I was winning on and he co uld n't even ride and things lik e that. For example, to put it into perspective, in building a motorcycle or testing a motorcycle, the factories would know more about who was capable of doing it and who isn't. Sheene was never invited to do any of the testing. The V was built and I raced it for four or five months before he co uld get . one. That was only because I had to prove the thing and make it better before they wou ld let anybody have one. Sheene can 't get this because Sheene wasn' t a factory rider; he was always a support rider. What he's saying is onl y from his point of view , from wha t he knows. H edoesn 't kn ow a ny of the technica l stuff th-at went into th e building o f the bike. I have to sit in on all th e meetings wh en th ey're bu ilding th e bike and wh en they ' re talking about it a nd wha t to do here and d o th ere. Bar none. So I'd say if any body has trouble setting up a bik e, it's him . How much money can a ri der expect to make by being a World Champion in 500cc road racing?
