RIVERSID E, CA, MAR. 5-6
Bruce Ogilvie and his booming Honda
XR500 were best today at motocross squared.
Not 20 riders , 400. Not 10 miles, 100. Lap
times of 15 minutes. Each lap was 10 miles
long ; eac h race, th ree hou rs.
The scene was the 15th annual Viewfinders Grand Prix at
R iverside International Race-

wa y. Ten months of planning a nd
negotiating and three weeks of preparation and setup cu lminated in one
of the most successfu l and smoothl y
run Viewfinders ever.
One of the biggest attractions during the weekend was the Patrizier Pro
race, won by Team Honda 's Ogilvie.
Ogi lvie sta rted the race in 10th p lace
and began climbing through th e ranks
at a slow, even pace.
In marked contrast was the progress made by J im Holley. Holley's
Yamaha started just ahead o f Ogilvie, but charged through the pack to
grab the lead before the end of the
second lap.
He crashed on the firth lap, and by
th e time he was up again, Rich ard
Hansing (Yam) had taken th e lead .
Holly took orr agai n, fro m sixt h
place, with Ogilvie just ahead. Charging again, he passed Bruce and two
others within a lap.
On the eighth lap, first Craig
Adams, then Ogilvie squeezed past a
tiring Holley, and all three caught
an d passed the second place rider.
When new leader Larry Roeseler
(H us) dropped out on th a t same lap,
Adams ha d th e lead. Bu t Ogil vie,
who ha d paced hi mse lf adm ira bly,
took first on the £inal lap and held off
the exhausted pack all the way to the
flag for the lion's share of the purse.
This was the first year Pros were
