Sidecar Esa££/Crueger roll to easy win LOUDON,.NH, JUNE 20 The ' team of Pete Esaff and Dennis Crueger collected an easy victory in the 18lap Sidecar final by a 40 second margin Battle of the Twins (Top) Jimmy Filice took the checkers three seconds in front of the Formula Two pack. (Above) Jimmy Adamo dominated BoTT. (Below) Peter Essaft and Dennis Crueger took the Sidecar victory. 22 through traffic to add two seconds to . his lead. By lap 20, McDonald had dropped off the pace, slipping to sixth. Filice kep t up his strategy of putting as much traffic as possible between himself and his challengers and held a steady five second lead over Merkel. The battle was still being waged between Humble. Labrosse, Nakam~ ~~ ~r~n .f?~ ~.e!1!h as they traded positions at will. Bryan Pacquette had also moved into the fray . As the race rolled to a finish, Merkel seemed unable to gain on Filice who continued to use traffic to gain distance. Filice took the checkered £lag with a three second lead over Merkel, followed at a good distance by Homchick and Howard. McDonald held over the tea m of Bruce Lind and Jack Hart. Ian Fillery and Brian Cellen were third. " I love the fans here ," said Esaf£. "They're great and if it wasn't for them we wouldn 't keep making the long trip to Loudon from California." This marked -th e second straight victory for the Esaff/Crue~er team and their Lindsay Enterprises/Casrrol/Kawasaki of Laconia, New Hampshire sponsored Kawasaki-powered rig. The pair were also the winners of the Road America round in May. The eight sidecar rigs that started the final were reduced to seven after the Winifred Hopp/Bill Alston Kawasaki was parked after leading the opening lap. The Bill Davidson/Pat Dunn Kawasaki rig took over the lead, holding 0[[ Esaff/Crueger, and the Yamaha powered rig of Lind/ Hart. The front running three pulled steadily away from the Fillery/Cellen Yamaha in fourth with Ronald Thorne/Bradley Fulker and their Yamaha holding down fifth . The top three remained tight to the halfway £lags with Esaff/Crueger holding the lead. The race for the Davidson/Dunn chair ended in a big puff of smoke on lap n ine when their engine expired. They were running second at the time. Esaff/Crueger moved out to a commanding lead over Lind/Hart. Fillery/Ceelen then moved into third. The top three continued in order to the finish in an uneventful final half. Adamo dominates LOUDON, NH, JUNE 20 , Jimmy Adamo and Malcolme Tunstall Duc-ed it out in the opening laps of the Battle of the Twins final , but when Tunstall went out with undisclosed problems, Adamo was home free. Adamo 's Leon ilCastrollWiseco sponsored Ducati ran like clockwork on his 25 lap, 40 mile ride to victory. "This makes up for the problems I had at Road America," said Adamo. "I was on the losing end there and Malcolme won." Runner-up Hal Coleman was very pleased with his ride; the highest . placing by a. Harley-Davidson mounted rider since the series began. " Wha t can I say? I would've liked to have won, but second isn't too bad. The tires got a bit greasy near the end and the bike was sliding a bi t." As expected, Adamo blasted into the lead on the start with Tunstall on his tail. Third evolved into a three rider battle with Coleman, Jerry Wood and Doug Lantz in close formation. Fred Hopp, fresh from the Sidecar race , was holding onto sixth overall, the first Expert Modified class rider. The top five were all GP class entrants. Adamo had opened up a three second lead over Tunstall by lap seven. The battle for third saw Wood drop off the pace and slip to sixth, followed by Uri Bergbaum and Joey Mills.
