Another rider f. lI. prey to " R.dicel Ro n" (5 5) .t SSM. TIm CI.rk so.red to .n e••y victory in DeAnz.'. 125cc Beginner cl•••. , Roloff "'iples at ARRA Willow RR By Lori Tyson ROSAMOND, CA, JUNE 6 Seaweed Kawasaki's Earl Roloff took home three first place trophies from the American Road Racing Association's Willow Springs meet today. Roloff was off to a great start in 750-0pen Production, as he led start to finish. Champion Moriwaki's Lee Fleming wasn't so lucky as he spun an alternator at the start and spent the first half of the race playing catch up. By the end. Fleming was right on Roloff's tail but had to settl e for second. In the 750cc cla ss Denn y Fryer took third overall to win his class, followed by Steve Gardner. Roloff, another one of our ex-dirt trackers, flew to anot her win in 750 and Open Super Street with no competition at all. The real race was for . second pl ace between Denny " Freeway " Fryer and Robbie Radel. Radel would grab the lead , then Fryer would outbrake him going int o tum one and tak e it back. At the finish , Radel crossed ihe line first. When asked what happened, Fryer just pointed to his back slick, which was really wiped out to the point of being useless to race on. In 750 and Open Box Stock, Roloff wanted one more trophy to take home, and after battling Steve Gardner for a while, took his third trophy of the day, this time on a 750. Dennis Logreco, in his first meet since a bad crash in March, held third (first Open classer) for the first half of the race until he fell in behind Many Sharpe and BrianStulbaurn. But since they were both 750s, he still won his class. Eddie Kocina took second Open classer. 40 Aaron Post took two first place trophies, the first in 600cc Produc- tion after trading the lead with Scott Harmala. Harrnala lost one of his contact lenses midway through the race and lost his depth perception but held on to take second. Third place showed a battle between Mike Haller and Joe Bruscella. Bruscella hung on to take the third place prize. During the race there was a two-bike pile-up in blind turn four which could have gotten really crazy. _Bu t due to the quick actions of officials, no one else went down and both riders. Kennie Buchanan and Torrie Bridgeman, were okay, although Bridgeman cracked a few ribs . In 600cc Box Stock, Post and Harmala went at it again, and with lap times in the low 1:4ls, put on a great race all th e way . to the flag, where Post took the win by inches. Third went to Steve Vague, followed by Steven Sowden , who moved up through th e pack after a slow sta rt. The overall win in 500 and Open GP went to - believe it or not - a Yamaha RD . Robert Rodrich led th e en tire race on his 500cc clas ser a nd left th e Open class trophy for jim Collins. Results 600 PROD: 1. Aaron Post (Kaw); 2 . Scott Harmela (Kawl; 3. Clark storms to DeAnza MX victory By Kit Palmer SUNNYMEAD, CA, JUNE 6 Two flawless rides by Suzuki mounted Tim Clark were more than enough to capture the win today in the I25ccBeginner class at DeAnza Raceway. As soo n as the gate dropped for th e start of the first moto, Clark jammed into the lead while Ray Arney (Yam) and Charlie Manno (Ya m) pursued. By the second lap, Clark had already developed a sizable lead over second, but Arney held Clark in sight hoping for a mistake. Unfortunately for Arney, there were none to take advantage of. Clark went on 10 take the win followed by Arney and Manno. In the second rnoto, Clark again rocketed into the lead ahead of Arney, john Stroud (Kaw) and jeff Bua (Suz). It looked as though Clark would again run away with another easy win, but Stroud gave Clark a run for the money. Stroud slipped by Arney by the second lap, and he then set after the leader. Throughout themoto, the two leaders were involved in a handlebar-to-handlebar battle for the lead . Stroud did all hecould to get by, but Clark held on for the win. Stroud took second while Arney settled for third. In the 250cc Beginner class, Matthew Lamy (Ka w) shot 10 the from of the pack at the start of the first rnoto, but Danny Moroles put his Yamaha in high gear and took over the lead by lap four. ~.oroles icr~sep the finish Turner tops SSM Oakley Double-Cross By Terry Whytel ORANGE, CA, JUNE 5 Honda factory support rider " Radica l" Ron Turner piloted his CR250 to the 250cc Pro class win at Saturday Saddle- I back's Oakley Double-Cross despi te a mild case of the flu . " I was feeling so bad I just started cruisin'." noted Turner after the race , " and Rhyan almost caught me." Steve Rhyan pressured Turner for most of the race, putting his Honda into the number two slot in each rnoto. Rhyan had to come from behind both rnotos as Turner jumped 10 early leads while Rhyan struggled 10 overcome poor starts. Finishing the day in third was another Honda rider, Ed Arnet, who _ also rode in the Open class and had to conserve energy. Pushing hard from fourth place was Suzuki rider Richard Sands, who has been showing much improvement in recent weeks. Yamaha rider john Whelchel topped the, Open Pro . class as Arnet
