CO, MAY 28 Ken Pieper and his brother Dave dominated tonight's racing at the Western Stock Show Arena by winning both mains, •' _ " 3"&0 • the King of the Hill match race , and setting a new track record. The Piepers really put on a super show. On another marginal race track, action was probably wilder than most any other night. Riders were getting in trouble out in the cushion while others had problems in the holes on the inside. The crowds stayed on thier feet all night. Second Division put on their usual good show. This allowed Jaudon 10 stan chasing Larsow. By this lime, however, Larsow had a nice lead, and all Jaudon could do was catch up. He was unable to pass Larsow despite several nice tries . The Handicap main turned out to be a nice race . Making the line-up was Denis Troudt. Larry Metherd (Rocky Mm. Harley), Mike Golightly (Brownell Dist.), Don Mayberry (Mayberry Systems/Atlas Alarms), Bill Walsh (Gateway Lounge) and Ken Pieper (Music 80's/Copybody/Flash M/C/Colo. Concept Design). When . the tapes went up it was Troudt, Metherd and Golightly. In the first corner .Meth erd hit the hole and headed straight to the wall, Golightly hit the hole also and followed Metherd 10 the wall. Mayberry was in third followed by Walsh and Golightly. Going into the last turn, Golightly slipped under Walsh for fourth place. Meanwhile, Ken Pieper was wheeling across the finish line to win. The Scratch main looked like it would be a real battle. Dave Pieper got the holeshot followed by Brian Hoel and South African visitor Gary Prommel. Larry Larson (M/ C Pans Center South) almost hit the wall in the first turn. Going into turn three, Hoel slipped under Pieper to take the lead. But when they started onto the front straight, Hoel went wide. and Pieper got the lead back. From then on it was follow the leader. Hoel tried everything he could but was unable to get by Pieper. Meanwhile, Prommel held on to third followed by Larson. It was Ken Pieper's tum again in the King of the Hill match race, pitted against brother Dave. Ken drew the pole, got the stan and won convincingly. Ken Pieper also was allowed a shot at the track record. After wheelieing hard off the stan, he got it together and broke the record by better than a full second. The old record, held by Scou Ormiston at 20.5 seconds, was . shattered by Ken Pieper's 19.06. Ingels ' aggressive style took him to the firs; win of the three match races. The second race got underway witll the Bud Man putting the power down to edge out Ingels, leaving the two riders tied . Robinson's final stan wasn 't as good as Ingels jumped into the lead. The Bud Man's charge was hard but not hard enou/?h as Ingels nailed the win and the King of the Hill victory. Robinson lined up for the Scratch main against Jim Lawson,John Volk and Guy Ermolenko. Robinson shot out for an early lead with Ermolenko hanging tight for second. Lawson and Volk battled for third.
