The Venezuelan drove a MarchBMW machine to victory in Pau, France. Earlier in the year, Cecouo had been listed as the second driver for the Fittipaldi Formula One team at the Long Beach Grand Prix, but neither the second car or Cecotto showed. The CBS television coverage of the June 12 American Speedway Final will air the day after the event on the June 13 season opener of CBS Sports Sunday. With the event running on the 440-yard track of Veterans Stadium, the odds would appear to favor the riders with British experience, but don't forget that Bast beat an impressive group of international riders on the 440-yard track at the L.A. Coliseum last summer, and Curoso has a good deal of British League experience under his belt. Only the top three will transfer to the July 4 Overseas Final (where Penhall is already seeded) in England, so the action should be intense. Suzuki minicycle riders swept three classes at the NMA Grand Notional Series Qualifiers at Saddleback Pari< last week. The action was spearheaded by Bruce Bunch and Rick Hemme. who rode their "Full Floater" Suzukis to ~rst and secondplace (respectively) in the 83cc Stock Expert 12 & Over Class. the 83cc Modified Expert 12 & Over Class and the 105cc 12 & Over Open Class. In fact, the 105 class was a straight 1-2-3-4 sweep for Suzuki with Bruce and Rick up front, followed by Larry Brooks and Kyle Fleming in3rd and4th Place.
