RIDE AWARE Colo rado motocrosser Bruce Sass left Sand Hills Motocross Track as a double winner, having ta ken both th e 125 a nd 250cc A classes. In the 125s, th e run ne r-u p was h is brother Eugene. G oose H ollow, OR, was the scene of a m otocross race, a nd the da y's big winner was from Wa shin gton . Tha t was J im Pomeroy (Bu l) who won th e 250cc Ex pert class and fin ished fourth in the Open Ex perts after a na t tire. Da vid Aldana kept hi s N orton out in front 10 win the Ascot half mile Expert m ain even t for th e thi rd week in a row. Mert Lawwill (H -D) came fro m behind to fi nish seco nd over Frank Gillesp ie (Tri). Larry Gino (Tri) wa s fir st Junior on th e night, a n d R ick Hocking occu p ied a similar position in th e Novice ranks. Speedwa y actio n a l th e Ventura Fairg rou nds saw Mik e Curoso hold off Rick Woods an d Billy Gray 10 win th e H a n d ica p ma in even t. It was n 't a n a ll bad n ight for Woods, though, a s he ca me back to take th e Scratch main. J eff Da vid son won th e 250 a n d 500cc classes as th e short track season opened a t H a yward Speedwa y. Bruce Hanlon won the 250cc Junior class in the same event. J.N. R o berts (H us) wa s th e Open Amateu r/ Ex pert win ner at a D-37 Eu ropean Scrambles. Jim Fishback (CZ) did likewi se in the 250cc ra n ks, a nd Di vision II a nd Trai lbike wins went to Tom Brooks and Mitch Mayes, respectivel y. CZ-mou nted Tommy Denning won a pair of classes in a scra m bles h eld a t Sweeney , TX. Do ug N icol a nd Ed die La wson fin ished 1-2 in th e 50cc class in the Powder Puff Association 's a n n ual Mother 's Da y IT scra m bles.
