Bria n McKenna (Han) was fastest to th e eme rge ncy chec k for th ird pl ace. beat ing J ames Rase (Yam) by 14 seconds and Mark Mauz (KTM) by 18 seco nds. L a s t year 's RM EC Champio n. Dri gan Weider (KTM). a nd J o hn Blyth e (Mai) topped the 250cc A class with a three-point loss . Weider beat Blythe by five seco nds at the tiebreaker to take first 250cc A. Gary Davis (KTM) and Mi ke Stokes (Han) both lost 10 points; however. Davis was quickest to the tie-breaker to ta ke third p lace. Morrill G riHith (Yam) had a great run in the 200cc A class. droppi ng on ly three p oi nts. Gary Myers (Han) took second with eight. and R ich Keu tz was thi rd a t 11. T he 125cc A class was won by Ro n Pep per (Hus), a nd th e Sen io r A class win went to Bill Will iams (KT M). T he entire event was run a t 24 m ph. a nd it was the fastest end uro the RM EC ha s seen in th e pas t year. T he fir st chec k a t 13.2 was th e on ly timekeeper a ll da y fo r most riders. Mil es o f tig ht tra ils and rock y strea m beds had riders dro p p in g points a t chec k tw o (19.2 m iles) a nd check th ree (30.0 m iles). C hec k four. at 39.2. was th e tiebreak er. Most of the top riders were bac k o n th eir minute here. bu t the check still too k poi nts a way from qu ite a few of th e A riders. A gas stop a t 42 miles a nd a 15 m in u te reset was a welcome brea th er. T he trip to check five at 68.4 had riders a lte rna tely keeping time. th en hustl in g to catch up. T he chec k was zeroed by a n um ber of riders. a n d most A rid ers d ro p p ed o ne or two points. A few m iles pa st check five was another 15-m in ut e reset. Check six, a t 79.0. was where Davis and HeHtn er dropped th eir two point s. T he m ost m em orable p art o f this sectio n was a tri p down a stream bed with na rrow . canyon -li ke rock wall s a nd dro p-off's. T wenty m iles of a lte rna ting tigh t an d o pe n trails led to the fi na l chec k a t 99.6. A few rider s were back on time here but most were d ro pping over five points . Once aga in the Pin e Ridge Cycle Assoc ia tio n p ut on a fin e event wi th a n a bundance of good tra ils. A few riders co m me nted tha t the lack of timekeeper chec ks let peop le ride hot ; how ever . th ese same ride rs sa id that the overall event was very enjoyable.
