After riding exhibition on Saturday, Bernie jelled out Saturday night
for Europe. Coming up are the Scottis h Six Days Trials and the next four
world rounds. He'll be back (along

Dwaine Wa lters' show. Mall Pritchard, number two in the ATA last
year 10 Walters, was spectating, hung
up in a time warp between selling his
o ld bi ke and receiving his new bike.
Dwaine started poorly. The first
loop scores showed: Schreiber 14,
Michael Lauxen 37, Oli Thordarson
46, Walters 48. Bernie had six of the
19 cleans while Lauxen had five. No
other rider had more than two .
Walters rebounded smartly on loo p
two, ta llying just three points more
than Schreiber. Bernie upped his clean
count to II of 16 rides, but his score
climbed to 20 while Walters turned in
a 23 with seven cleans. At day's end,
the points read: Walters 71, Lauxen
79, Thordarson 89, Kipp Webb 95.
Schreiber headed to the airport with a
total of 34 points,
Walters dropped just 36 points on
Sunday 10 win both ATA and State
honors with a score of 107. Michael
Lauxen finished second with 143,
followed by Kipp Webb with 166.
Rob Walters, Dwaine's brother, won
the AT A Amateu r class with a 160
while Ted Fela nd topped the Slate
Amateurs with a score of 156.
Ken Mara cek of P .I.T .S. won both
Senior A classes. The ATA runner.u p was Tom Hascher. John Husma nn took second in the State class.
Bob Watson had the best Senior N
score, 140. Gary Stewart topped the
Slate entrants,

this year's version has moved forward

Slate Championship Series. The British-American Cup kicked off the series up north, The third round on the
schedule is a P.I.T.S. event near San
Louis Obispo. The year-end EI Trial
de Espanan is also now a pari of the
California Series.
V.O.T.E.'s competition co-chairmen. Andre -Pl ouffeand Steve Hoiland headed the section selection,
with plenty of help from Bob Morris
and Jay Ebinger.
Section three, manned by Holland,
merited the Laid BacklFar Out-Award
for Arresting Ambiance. Steve and
his young section assistant. Lenny,
decided to tape record the entire entry
as it rode through their section. T hen
they p layed back the tape during the
second loop, u n ex p u rg at ed and
everything.
T he killer section on Saturday
proved to be number five. No body
three'd it. Or two'd or one'd or cleaned
it. Even Bernie Schreiber rook two
fives. The riders had to climb out of a
water-filled hole to leap a rock step,
then another step, and hang an immediate right to the gate in less th an a
bike length. Bernie cleared the dou-

The trophy presentation ran like

The best unofficial "trophy" of the

of NorCal's Team Elderly by Bob
Miller of Section One Products. Dave
received an eight-inch vise-grip attached to a cord 10 be worn around
the neck. Bill's loss of his loop card
on Saturday motivated Bob to come
up with a more substantial method
for h angin g onto Sunday's card. •
