However, in the back straightaway, Schwartz took the lead and went on to victory. The Junior speedwayers have made their way into speedway. Besides having their own program, now they are also riding better , and their names and numbers are becoming as familiar as some First Division riders. The Junior division main consisted of Cameron Evans (who went down with a bad fall and had to be carried off), Trinon Cirrello, Ronnie Correy, Greg Hancock, Jordan Duncan and Jesse Finch. These young men rode their hardest, and in spite 'of three crashes in their main event (fewer than in the Third Division main), they were back up and riding. Finch took it with some of the finest riding you would expect to see. However, it wasn't an easy win . Coming in a strong second was Duncan, third was Hancock and fourth went to Correy. The Third Division main, after a red-flagged first attempt, got underway with Shane McDonald taking the early lead. McDonald's fate was to be short-lived for Warren Diem, a top rider in Pennsylvania, proved himselfall over in California. Diem passed McDonald on the second lap where he stayed for the remainder of the race. Diem has good form and-is an aggressive rider: he 'll be a top con tender by the end of the season. Finishing third was Steve McFarland who held that position for the entire race. Fourth was Russell Bacarella. The Second Division main started fast and hard. Unfortuna tely it also ended hard on the fourth lap. The race was red-flagged when the leaders battling for first Rick Miller and Guy Errnolenko, tangled in turn one. This caused both riders to be out of the race and others to go down, resulting in the red flag . In the judgement of referee Irwin Moon, the Iinish was Ermolenko first, Jim Turner second and Tim McCasland third. The Handicap main event pitted Pfetzing, Schwartz, Gagnon, Lawson, Christian and McConnell, the ingredients for a great race. Schwartz started the race in fourth place. By the second lap, he moved mro the number two position, and with the finesse that makes him the champion that he is, Schwartz moved into first place, never to be challenged again. The second spot went to Gagnon, who had started the race in first place. On the last lap McConell , who had been battling the entire race with Christian, took the number three spot, leaving Christian, who was unable to get through traffic tonigh, a disappointing fourth place. The Scratch main event, was the final event of the evening, with the heavy fog settling in giving the race an eerie effect. The race was staged, the crowd was on their feet, and the gate flew up with Dubb Ferrell, an old timer, taking the lead goin$ into tum one. However, so did Chnstian (the only rider to make both main events). Mike Bast and Dave DeTernple were together right behind the two leaders. It was the closest and fastest start of the year, all four riders separated by less than a tire length. On the second lap it was Christian, no Ferrell, no Christian, no Ferrell and so on. The entire race was like this. Ferrell, refused to yield, and at the wire in one of the best finishes yet this year, it was Ferrell. Ferrell proved he not only can ride with the best, he can beat them.
