As you can see in the photo, spilled gas ignited on top of the tank. Fortunately they were able to get the fire out before any major damage occurred. KTM's new four-stroke is the 504 Pro-Lever. The machine features a 504cc Rotax four-stroke single with Pro-Lever rear suspension and (probably) 40mm Marzocchi forks and front disc. It should be at KTM dealers some time in July. Defending World Champion Andre Malhere (Han) started off the '82 season with a bang by winning the Apr. 25 French GP, the opening round of the 500cc World MX Championship Series. Malherbe won both motos, while runner-up Brad Lackey (Suz) had a 2-6 day. Third overall was Andre Vromans (Yam) with 3-8 mota finish es. Americen Mike Guerra (Hus) won his first-ever GP as he topped the Apr. 25 Spanish GP, the second round of the 260cc World MX Championship Series. Guerra logged 4-1 mota finishes to top points leader Georges Jobe (Suz) who had a 6-2 day. Kees Van der Ven (KTM) finished third overall with an 8 -3 score. Danny laPorte went 9-10. Rolf Dieffenbach (Han) won the'first mota. Marc Velken eers (Yam ) won his third straight World Championsh ip 125cc MX Series round, the Apr. 25 Austrian GP, by winning the first mota and finishing third in the second leg. Akira Watanabe (Suz) was second wi th 3-2 mota finishes. L . ~ eliminations beginning at 6 p.m. Terry Vance (Suz) established a new NMRA elapsed time record in Top Fuel, qualifying at 7.17 seconds. His initial qualifying pass had been 7.24 seconds at 197.36 mph. . jeff Fredette (Suz) came out on top of a five-way tie to take the overall win in the April 25 Burr Oak NAtional Championship Enduro run near Rose Lawn, Indiana. Fredette dropped two points as did john Martin (C-A), Mike Melton (Hus), Terry Cunningham (H us) and Fritz Kadlec (Kaw). Martin took the AA class win while Miek Keen (Hus ) took High Point A. Wally Wilson (H us)grabbed the High Point B gold. ones are firm, " said Rudy Galindo of AFM Pro, the company promoting the series. We shoved the Riverside thing through, but then the AMA wanted us to pay a National sanction and not have any National riders there. So we told them there was no way. " The next Budweiser endurance race is May 15-16 at Sears Point Raceway in Sonoma,CA. Brian Zeky, the MBA road racer importer in New York, is hoping to set up an Agostini-style road racing team to promota MBAs in this country. Zeky is seeking one or two large sponsors for a team to contest the remaining AMA Formula Two races and the Canadian GP. Pictures of the new 600cc V-4 road racer that Kenny Roberts is expected to debut in the May 2 Austrian GP, showed up in Britain'sMotor c,de News last week.
