Manning,' Anderson, Burgett smoke SI R Gold CupMX By Clay Light KENT, WA, APR. 18 Round two of the Yamaha Perpetual Gold Cup series saw two new victors emerge winners on a cold, cloudy day of racing • a t Seattle Internat ional Raceway. Robb Mannin g (Hi-Point Hon ) took th e 125cc Pro class with a 2·1 tally, beating Jimmy Anderson (Moto-X Fox Yam), who went 1-2 for second. The 250cc Pro class had Anderson smo ke both motos wire to wire for the overall win, and Ri ck Burgett (Canada Dry / Keystone/ O ury/ Oakley/ Ya m support) took the Open Pro after a di sappointing DNF in moto one of th e 250cc Pro class . Eighty-six Pros were on hand to do battle for cash and awards, not large enough to run qualifying heats, so all Pros made the main events. First race of the cold, snowy, then partially sunny days was the 250cc Pro class which had 33 riders on the line and ready to go for the gusto. Jimmy Anderson blazed to the head of the pack over Ross Learn (Hon of Spokane) a nd Scott Tyler (Devol Eng.! Mai Northwest). T yler got by Learn right off the bat to go after Anderson. Anderson pulled away from the pack in the early going, the second lap to be exact, with Tyler, Learn, Danny Diesso (Burien Suz) , Burgett, Tom Moen (Seattle Yam) and Brett Trembley (Spokane Suz) all so close it would be too tough to call it one way or another until lap three when Tyler th restof the pack Iollowed by a Di esso/Burgett/Tremblay di ce. Anderson pulled out a n immediat e six-second lead over Tyler an d Learn. Learn got by T yler in a smooth pass for seco nd a nd was o u t to ca tch Anderso n, whom he cl osed in on a t a bli sterin g pace. A four rider dice went on for fourth behind Burgett an d Diesso consist in g of Tom Poage (H igh la nd Hon ), John Christi an , Jr. (Ya m) , Moen and Mark Johnson (H on ) of Montana. Tyler crashed, putting Burgett into the third position as Anderson and Learn fought for first. Learn bailed off horrendously on the choppy downhill and DNF which left second open for Burgett, but the " L u m berjack's" stay in secon d didn 't materialize as h e threw a chai n, breaking th e case for a DNF. That pu t Diesso in second for th e remainder of the moto while Anderson had an untouchable 35-second lead over Diesso. Poage poured it on to tak e third at the flag followed by Jeff Haase (Hon ), Montana 's Emery Woolsey (Hon), Idaho's Mark Olberding (Suz) and Moen. Anderson lapped all but Diesso and Poage in the 30 minute moto, Moto two had Diesso grab the lead going into turn one over Anderson, who wasted very little time moving to first , Poage, Christian and Moen followed through the deep, sandy, rocklaced whoops, but all would lose sight of the Moto-X Fox rider by lap two. Anderson pulled a 40-second lead over Diesso on lap two with Christian and Olberding giving chase. Anderson had the rac e sewn up by the half and motored all alone to the flag for the win over Christian, Johnson, Olberding, Poage, Woolsey, Nathan Pippert (Hon) and Bruce Irwin (Suz), Open Pro moto one had Burgett launch his Yamaha into the lead with Tyler, Larry Hooper (Wheelsmith/O'Neal Mai) and Don Knoblauch (Yam) following.
