It is ni ce to know that th ere are so me events around that trul y test one's abil ity to rid e a motorcycle. Thank yo u for making it interesting and challenging to ride a m otorcycle aga in , I ca n hardly wait for nex t year. P ETER POSTEL Ch eckers M ,C. Westl ak e Vill age. CA Raves to Rovers I would like to th ank th e Rov ers M,e. for putting on an excell ent Boner Run! Being a member of th e Viewfinders. I wa s thankful that the co urse was a fun one rather th an a rough one. so th at rid ers a nd th eir bikes would still be together for our GP th e following week end. Your co u rse wa s well marked and a good ride! Thanks again Rov ers. MARKZELA #9C. Viewfinders M,e. Bishop. CA P .S. Great fini shing pins! A positive image As som eo ne in volv ed professionally in th e public rela tio n s field. I was very much impressed with th e p olished and co n fide n t wa y R ob H assay presented himself on TV recen tly while being interviewed by sportscaster Ted Da w so n on KABCT V Cha n ne l 7 in Los Angeles. Rob 's story o f pe rseve re nce and de termi na tio n in o verco m ing h is perso na l and fina nc ia l o bstacles en ro u te to his raci ng drea ms sho wed h im to be a n o u tsta n di ng you ng man w ho is a definite cre dit to th e mot orcycle racing wo rld, I'm sure that , lik e m e, a nyo ne who listen ed to Rob 's co m ments a nd observed the ge nt lema n ly way in wh ich h e ha ndl ed himself o n TV felt fortuna te to ha ve th is yo ung man represen t motorcyclists everywh ere, . Being a motorcycl ist of sorts myself, I frankl y get tir ed o f th e often-times negative stereotype whi ch some of the public has for " bikers." That's wh y I sa y "thumbs up" to yo u. Rob H a ssa y, for being the su pe r spokesman for a ll racers that yo u were on T ed Dawson 's show. From what I h eard a n d viewed . a nyone who co u ld in vest the money which hesays he n eeds to be sponsored this season would get hi s in vestme nt back 10 times over. H e looks lik e a w in ner. JOHN SMALL Orange. CA Astrodome amateur correction Your April 7, 1982 edition con tained err ors in reporting th e Over 30 class a t th e Astrodome (a m a te u r su percross, on page 18). It was myself . Kenny Butler (Yam ), who got the hol eshot and led for a lap a nd a half. not John Couvillion. The finish wa s as yo ur reported exce p t third pl ace fini sh er Phil Hess was riding a Suzuki. If yo u print a co rrectio n. pl ease n ot e m y sponsor is D & B Yam aha. a nd it is partly for th em th at I wrote yo u, Regehr/Chapparrals story OK I am writing in response to th e letter written by Mike Adams co ncern ing th e reporting o f th e Chapparrals Nati on al Enduro. Mr. Adams apparent purpose for writing hi s lett er was to clarify th e issu e o f " Check 0 ." which was reported as being 50 feet in side th e allowable one-tenth of a mil e, Mr. Adams reports that Cycle N ews reporter Ed Regehr " a p parently" gOI h is in forma tion by mea suring th e section with his own motorcycle. This. Mr. Adams. is absolutely fal se! Mr. Regehr received his information first hand from the protesting rider, The information he printed wa s exac tly what the protesting rider stated after mileaging the section. It seems a sh ame th at your letter, which was written to correct th e facts, instead provided misl eading information due to yo ur misreporting of what yo u thought was factual. I a lso find the statement concern ing Mr. Regehr's con flict of interest due to friendship with the protesting rid er irrelevant a nd a ch ea p shot to destroy Mr. Re gehr's credibility. I suggest that in th e future. you check out th e fact s before making allegations co ncern in g Mr . Regehr's credibility. GARNER PALENSKE Fullerton. CA KENNY BUTLER . Oklahoma Cit y. OK Classy Jackrabbits Tom Sauter remembered I'm no longer a m ember of th e J ackrabbits M,C. because o th er co m mitments take too much of my time to a llow me to be a good active m ember. But I do keep in touch with severa l club members. I j us t heard a bo u t so me th in /7 they did which reaffirms my co n viction tha t g uys who "do it in the dirt" a lso have a lot of heart. It seems th at th e day a fter th eir recent har e and hound race. severa l cl u b members were cleaning up th e co urse wh en th ey ca me across severa l ride rs who were trying to find a motorcycle which was los t during th e race . T he rid ers were bro th ers and were tryin g to find th e bike belo nging to th eir father. who is 50 plus years of age a nd wh o was tryin g h is seco nd or th ird desert race, It seems th at wh en father ca me over th e ridge and sta rted down th e killer downh ill to th e finish line. the throttle stuck open and pop bailed out. leaving th e bike headed down th e hill on its own, destined for the bowels of hell!
