First race out to brave a so lid downpour WdS th e Mini Intermediates, at nine riders stro ng. Anthon y Vensua la (Yam of Springfi eld) led the pack through the soup over Randy Wiens ( Wa lly's Chevron/Kaw ) and Bill y Borosek (Va lle y Cycle Yam ). Vensuala pulled away from the others after a few laps of dicing with Wie ns and Borosek, who both collided in a muddy comer. Wie ns remounted first to pursue Vensua la whi le Mall Ra mey (Dad/Yam ) and Jeff Da ily (Yam support) gave chase, but to no avail. Vensuala motored on through th e slop to take the first rnoto win over Weins , who wa s in hi s first Interm ed ia te race, a nd Ramey. Moto two had Ramey slosh to th e head of th e thinned out pa ck over Borosekand Vensuala. Ra mey logged eno ug h time o n two wheels 10 di splace th e pack a n d take th e win o ver Borosek , who had to fight off Vensua la for seco n d. Ramey's 3-1 wa s good for th e o vera ll over Ven sual a who went 1-3 a nd Wiens (2-4). Nex t in a series of snowy/ sleethampered ra ces wa s th e 125cc Intermediates, started behind th e 30-40 class who were on Open bikes. The 30-40s were turned loose first a nd led by Clem Kramer (Freedom Yam ). Charlie Standeford (Mai) and Charles Harter (Mai) gave chase only to lose sight of the former flat tracker . It didn 't take lo ng for the 125cc Intermediates 10 swoop up th e 30-40 riders, and when they did, th ey all did it at once. The first 125cc rider to get by th e 30-40s wa s J eff Toedterneir (Eugene Suz). T oedtemier tackled the tough, muddy course a nd made the seco nd fa stest l 25cc time oftheday as he embarrassed th e Open bikes and riders. Rick Gunderson (Eugene Yam) held second throughout the moto with new Interm ed ia te rider Larry Bru m well (Herb's Cycles Yam) giving chase a ll the wa y to the flag . The 30-40 class rno to win went 10 Kramer with Sta n deford in second. Second rnoto th er e was once again no stop p in g the 125cc riders. Th e rain was coming down in buckets, as expec ted . Standeford led the parade bri efl y for a lap until Gunderson put hi s YZ past th e "old man " as di d Toedterni er a nd Brumwell. The pa ck was more m ixed th an la st time. The other 125cc Intermediates followed th e 30-40 rid ers, but up front , Gunderson a nd T oedtemier were clipping bars fighting for th e lead and th e overall as wel l. Gunderso n hooked up hi s rear tire to hold fir st through th e fina l wa ter-lin ed whoops 10 ta ke the win and th e overall with a 2-\. Toedtern ier was close in seco nd and seco nd o vera ll ( J -2) with Brumwell (3-3) third . The older guys were left humil iat ed with a whipping by th e 125cc Intermed iat es. First o u t o f the gate wa s the I25cc Pro class. Cla y Light (L O P/ Su per Seer Yam ) got the jump o n the pack bu t only to th e firs t co rner, w he n tea m m ate Ri ch ard Earle (L O P/S uper Seer/Hon su pport ) took o ver. Earle th en m ade co ntact w ith Wa yn e Church (Ea stside Kaw ), nearly sendin g both down in th e so u p. That p ut Mike McCo rmick (Fred 's Cycl e Cit y Su z) into th e lead, making for a fourth lead ch an ge by th e time th e Pros hit tum two. McCormick began to pull away, but th e Pros were not going 10 give up eas ily. Earle held down second a n d wa s closing. Church slid out putting Light in third , but it wa s Light's turn 10 bail off when a boot-saver got caught in th e chain/sprocket combo. Church motored aro und in third, caught up with Earle but cou ldn 't get by th e new ly signed LO P rider. McCormick , by th e way , took the win. Th e I25cc Novices never did mas ter th e track. One rider, who wa s docked a lap for starting with the Pros, sti ll managed 10 come up with a seco nd behind Regan Cummings (Yam) . MOIO two had McCormick light off th e field over Earle, Church a nd Ligh t. Church got by McCormick a nd Earle in one cl ean swoop to lead for a lap, onl y to go DNF ea rly in th e race as did Li ght. lea vin g McCormick a nd Earl e to fight it o u t. The weather changed aga in, th is time to snow a nd a ch illy wind. McCormick sla ughtered th e pa ck for th e win a nd th e o vera ll foll owed by Earle (2-2). In th e Open cla sses Derek Lou vring (Ya m ) took a stra ng lehold for fir st ( I- I) over Dave Beck (Ya m) and Kent Chapman (Yam). wh o went 2-2 a n d 3-3. respectivel y. The 125cc Novice class was tak en by Alan Fisher (Eu ge ne Suz ), who had a fifth in rnoto on e. but th e overall went to Cummins with a 1-2 ta lly.
