Mike Mohrbacher (H us) topped the Open Pro class with a sweep , and Chad T orbergson (Suz) did the same to the I 25s, as all three Pro class winners swept their classes. The U5cc Pros were combined with the Experts. W ith five Pros and 17 Experts on the line, it was sure to be a free-for-all. Moto one saw Todd Paulson (Suz) lead the Pro pack over Brad Bolm es (Suz), Torbergson, Kurt Howla nd (Suz ) and Rola nd Shaff (Suz). T orbergson wasted no time taking over the Pro lead , and the Experts wer e soon unleashed . Jeff Ch a pman (Kaw) pu t 'his 'S2 KX into the lead over last week's winner Den nis Dolquist (Yam) , Billy Welland (Yam) and Suzuki rider David Bailey. . Up front it was Torbergson's Suzuki saili ng a round the twisty, sandy , rocklaced course in first while Paulson , Bolmes, How land and Shaff had it out behind him . Dolquist got by Chapm an to lead the Experts and closed the gap between himself and the Pro riders who were beginning to sp read out. There always has to be an Expert or Intermediate who shows up the Pros ; however, Dolqu ist only managed to et b a cou Ie of the Pros since Torbergson ' held a huge lead at the flag. Paulson took second with third to Bolmes. In rou nd two. Torbergson staked his claim for the gold and led it all the way, bu t tha t wasn't the end of the race. Shaff went into second place when Pa ulson fell to the DNF gremlin as Howland trailed. Leading the Expert wars were : Chapman, Welland and Dolquist, who found the going rough and couldn't find a way around the leaders. The 250 and Open Pros were a different story, combined but stagger started. The 250s blasted out of the gate first . Jeff Moore (Bellevue Suz) put himself into the pole position ahead of former mini national whiz J ack McGill (Yam support), Brad Ellis (Hon) and Teddy Pinkman (LOP Yam). Just when the dus t cleared, the O pe n Pros staged a war of their own . Mike Mohrbacher pu t his CR H usky into a wicked holeshot that took him into tu m one all alone over Doug Hafsos (Mai) and Rick Lago (Mai). The Open Pros found themse lves amidstthe 250s, and it beca me the battle of the day. Moore had no problems topping the field for the 250cc Pro win ahead of never-say' dier McGill, who handled the 250 quite well . The last time we saw him was on an SOl Paulson was third, Ellis fourth and Mohrbacher put his Husky across the lin e for the Open Pro win. Moto two . had Moore again sail away while Ellis put his Pro- Link into second. McGill ran into problems as did Paulson and Pinkman, letting Moore free to cruise to the checkered flag ahead of Mohrbacher. Lago got by Hafsos for second Open m achine. One race that you'd have to classify as "cu te" and is rarely covered is the Pee Wee races. Today they were combined as Bs and Cs raced together. Girls usually do quite well in this class; in fact ,' the first moto saw Amy Anderson (Yam) take the che ckers quite handily over Bu tch Sm ith (Yam), Charlie Mitc hell (Yam) a nd Brandy Judge (Yam), although Am y wasn't quite as lucky in mot o two a nd settled for a second. T ha t was the C class. The more experienced B class saw another girl whip the boys. T a ra Harrison (Yam) went on to romp them both motos over Lewis Aron (Yam) 2·2 and Scott Fisher (Yam) 3·3.
