CA , JAN. 17 Willow Springs International Raceway, horne of Sports car and motorcycle roadracing, opened a new chapter in its racing activities with a twomile off-road course designed for dune buggy events. Two Antelope Valley residents, Dennis andChris Botsko, saw that the course would also be ideal for three-wheel racing. 18 Through an arrangement with the Tumbleweed Off-Road Racing association, sponsors of the inaugural buggy race, three-wheelers were added to the program and drew as many entries as did the cars . The course was very fast with the 250s turning lap times only 35 seconds slower than the Baja Bugs . In the 201 ·250cc class. David Pinkosky took his stocker into the first tum in mote-one 10 yards ahead of anyone else and had 10 seconds over the pack before the end of lap one. Bob Clutter tried several times to close the gap between himself and Pinkosky and made a valiant effort when th e white flag came ou t. Clutter was begin ning to move up at a steady pace but ran out of time an d was for ced to settle for second. Clutter took 'an irhirleliiat'e leiid ' in I mota two and rode aggressively to take first . He DNF in moto one and so was not in contention for the overall win. Pinkosky knew that second would earn him the overall but it wasn't easy. Dennis Botsko had finished th ird an d was right beh ind Pinkosky looking for that better second moto finish that would give him the win . The speed of the course and the short five lap races were no t in favor of anyone catching up and tim e ran out. With one and two placings. Pinkosky took the overall win . Winners in the 0-200cc Stock and Mod ified classes were Mark Dainty and Chris Botsko, Chris and Dennis Bo tsko should be congratulated for th fine job they did in putting this event together in less than five weeks. Will ow Springs ha s the potential to be a major part of SoCal three-wheel racing. If you th ink you' d like to see mor e of these events, you migh t 'call Chris Botsko at Chris's ATC parts in Lit tlerock .
