By Lance Bryson MADERA, CA, JAN. 10 • Dean " Dyn o" Sundahl slid into another 1.-1 score aboard his factory Team Honda 250R, along with te~mmate Cilrti~ " Sparky" Sparks lane in the second round of the Continental Mo ta-sport Club Golden State Series held at Lake Madera. The building of the Lake Madera ATV track took its shape just two weeks prior to our arrival. The course was , to say the least, motocross style. If you didn't have good suspension, you were in a world of hurt: The track was one of the best, maybe a little tight in some places, but other . tha n that, it was hot. The 200cc class proved to be a one man show. Lonnie Orosco (Premier Yamaha), Tim Hoy (Hon), Tom G aian (Hon) andMartyHart (Yam) would only get a good look at Sparky at the starting line. After that, it was just a view of his back from a distance. Being a two-stroke lover, one couldn't help falling in love with Sparky's machine. T he sound of a finely tuned four-stroke, which Sparky has, was enough to give anybody goose pimples. As the nag dropped Sparky jumped out in front followed by Gaian, Hoy, Hart and Orosco. Orosco, who looked from previous races to be a top contender on his Premier Yamaha 175cc water-cooled mount, had troubles man rode a into the hunt. By lap two Sparky pulled out a commanding lead that was never contested. Gaian, Hoy and Hart were left to vie for the number two slot of which Gaian took control. Hart was having his share of problems as he was mounted on a stockframed 175cc Yamaha. The motor was fast enough, bu t if you don't havea good handling frame, it makes it tough to go ihroughi the junk. Sparky's ride netted him the win, followed by Gaian in second. Hart took third due to Hoy's electrical problems, and Orosco dropped out. Moto two was almost a repeat of moto one. Sparky jumped out first followed by Gaian, Hoy. Hart and Orosco. Hart pulled out on the second lap due to sheer fatigue, with Orosco pulling out on lap four of the 10 lap race. Orosco seemed to have gotten his foot run over by his own bike and . the pain was too much. Sparky went . on to take the overa ll followed by Gaian and Hoy in second and third, respectively. The first 250cc heat started 45 seco nds later, just long enough for Sparky to ge t off his mounta ndjump on his 250R . Ten laps would seem to be enough to wear a person out, let alone jumping on a bigger bike and • • • t :'l :O' .l ,
