Rosenburg and Hutchens top OTs at Sunrise By Bob A lloy ADELANTO , CA ,jAN . 10 Thirty-nine Old Timers with hot coffee and thermal underwear, fought temperatures below 50° and heavy rains . Sunrise just didn't at Sunrise Valley but tha t didn't stop us. The track was fast with super traction because of the ra in and we had our share of fun . Both th e new and old tracks were used. We were given seven laps which gave us long 25 m inute motos. Master Dennis Rosenburg stormed right out th ere with a I -I to win overall. Tom W idi ck was lightning fast with his 2-2 for sec ond. Expert Chuck Woody got right in there with th e fast stuff by gassing in to the lead and keeping things tha t wa y. Da ve Hutchens followed Woody in with second and Dick Frampton blasted in with third . Chuck Woody dominated the action in moto two until the fifth lap. Then Dave Hutchens made his big play and shot by Woody to take over the lead and win. Woody was righ t there fo r second and Frampton pulled in with a fast third. Dick Burley did a lot of Amateur blasting with his Ya m a ha. Burley was the rnostest out th ere with his first place. Gene Powell did some fast moving to get second place. Third place was Arnie Adkinson who was followed by Al Smith with fourth. Moto two began with Gabe Guttierez getting the holeshot and taking the lead. Then it was Dick Burley who had the lead for a lap . But Al Sm ith came through and rode away with first . Gabe Guttierez grabbed second and Gene Powell powered into third. Dick Burley held on, problems and all , and took fourth . Amateur Dave Blogett began the action and for three laps things were going his way . Larry Calderon (Suz) took over and it was Calderon who ra n away with the number on e position . joe McClain did some blasting to come in second. Da ve Bloggett held on with t hi rd . Larry Calderon looked like a rea l winner in rnoto two but after two laps Richard Gu thrie was leading the action . In the end it was joe McClain who decided the outcome by zooming into first . Pedersen floats to SSM victory By Terry Whytal ORANGE, CA ,jAN . 9 Canadian rider Ross Pederson rode his Suzuki Floater to the 250cc Pro win at this weeks Saddleback Saturday Motocross Pederson had to take a back seat in th e first moto as AMA 0 ·37 number one plate holder Dave Pettigrew powered into th e ea rly lead and reached the checkers first . Pettigrew had problems in the second round however and dropped to thi rd as Ped erson rode a near perfect race and easily topped the fiel d at motos end. Pettigrew end ed the day with second overall be hind Pederson wh ile Yamaha rid er Glen Senecal tallied a 4 · 2 score to pick up th e third place sha re of the purse. Honda rider St eve Rh yan was flyin ' in the Open class. Rhyan gated well in both motos and roosted awa y to safe leads by th e m id -way po in t. Following Rhyan to the checkers in each race was Yamaha ISDE st ar Larry Roeseler. His motocross skills have improved greatly in the past two years. Greg Young finished third on a Yamaha . Paul Huffman used a pair of second place finishes to top the Open Intermediate class as first moto winner Alan Olson didn't compete in t he second race. Huffmans Yamaha followed Olsons' Maico to the checkers in round on e with Ma rvin Ol son powering his Maieo to third and T om White grabbing fourth on a new Honda . White came back to ac e the second moto as he adjusted to th e Honda . Whites 4 -1 score was good enough for second ove rall ahead of Yamaha rider Mik e Boal. Resu lts OPEN PRO: 1. Glover, Jones, Dale top Pros at Saturday Saddleback By Terry Whytal ORANGE, CA ,jAN. 16 Yamaha teamster Broc Glover made a rare appearance at Saddleback with a 250cc ' production YZ and showed the local Pros that factory machines are not the only means to success. Glover dom inated both rnotos eas ily, opening huge leads on the pack by the mid-way mark and then cruising in for the checkers. Suzuki rider Andy Guth kept the gas on in each race and won the battle for the runner·up slot. Finishing with a th ird overall score was Husky desert specialist Tom Kell y who posted 5·3 finishing positions. Former National Champ Gary jones rode a new single-shock KTM 495cc to t he Open Pro victory. jones had little problem using the awesome power of the Austrian made machine to open an ea rly lead on second place fin isher Ste ve Rawson. Rawson worked his Honda to back-to-hack runner-up finishes to ea rn the second place share of the purse money ahead of Maico rider Bob Rutten in third . Young Doug O 'Donnell rode an insp ired first 125cc Pro moto , pushing his Suzuki Floater to the front of t he field and ho lding off challenges from second place fin ish er Craig -Da le. In ro u nd two O'Donnell again roosted to th e early lead but began to fade in th e late laps and Dale worked his Suzuki to th e front to ea rn th e overall win . North out points Arlington at Corona HSMX By Kit Palmer CORONA , CA ,jAN. 15 Arlington won the overall in all but one class , but the consistent finishes of North gave them top honors in high school motocross competition at Corona Raceway. By . - ,- - the end of the night North had an 89 point advantage over Arlington, 220 · 137 . Poly finished their evening with 89 . Arlington's Wyle Eng (Yam) had a busy night , winning a total of three out-of-four motos to take the overall in both the 125cc and 175cc No vice class es. The only rider to beat Eng was North's Scott Mapes (Kaw) , who did it in the first moto of the 175cc Novice class . But Eng's all -important secondmoto win enabled him to take the overall. Mapes took second overall while th ird went to Lloyd Edgerson (Yam ). Mark Decker of Arlington exchanged moto wins with Poly 's Dan Lawrence (Yam) in the 125cc Intermediate class , with the upper·hand going to Decker after he won the second moto . Brett Jacobs (Yam) took third each time for third . The only class in which North was able to take the overall was the Mini Senior class where Chad Barnes (Kaw) traded wins with teammate Gary Dent (Yam). Barnes took the win by com bining a 2·1 score that bested Dent's 1-2 combo. Poly's jeff Tyrolt (Kaw) took home th ird after combining a 3-5 tally. Rick Rodgers (Kaw) took command of the 250cc Pro class by capturing victories each time out. Finishing in second was john Mazzacane (Suz). Third went to Maico-mounted Eric MacCracken. When the gate dropped for the first moto it was Rodgers who shot into the lead with second going to Mazzacane. MacCracken battle with a fouled plug but h is Maieo defouled it self quickly enough for h im to take over the second spot two laps la ter. But by that time Rodgers had gained enough of a lea d to secure first . Mazzacane took third. Again it was Rodgers wh o grabbed th e early lead in the second moto with MacCracken and Mazzacane following . Rodgers developed a slight lead but MacCracken began to move up with ea ch lap . McC racken's efforts ended when he took a hard fall , shearing the gas tank off his bike. Rodgers finished with the win and the overall while Mazzacane took second. jack Scott of Yamaha of Pomona led every lap of both motos to take a convincing win in the 250cc Intermediate class. Finishing in second was Alan McCown who took his Kawasaki to a 4 · 2 combination. A 2-4 enabled Yamaha mounted Brandon Sneiderwine to take home a third-pl a ce tro phy. Results MINI SR: 1.
