Huffman won the moto with Mattheisen placing second. The second 125cc moto was a repeat, with Keller again placing !iTSt over Smith. Michlitseh was back on the starting line for moto twO of the 250cc class with some new adjustments made to his Kawasaki. Mattheisen led the moto for one lap, but Michlitsch was soon charging by for first. Tim led for three more laps after that, but as before, his scoot started to stick, and Tim pulled in. Tim's mechanic commented. "It's a brand new carburetor, and we just don't have the needles and jets we need." Mattheisen rode on to first place and Huffman with . Williams following. Michlitsch was able to make up for some of his misfortune by riding brilliantly in the Open Pro class. He easily won the moto over fellow riders Brian Mode, who placed second both motos, and Randy Toreson, who chalked up two thirds. As usual, the 125cc Junior class was the largest class of the day, containing 11 riders. Topping the class was Eugene rider Larry Brumwell. Placing second overall was Steve Cornelison. Steve came to the races with the intention of just relaxing and watching the day's event. But 125cc Intermediate rider Ted Perreard wasn't having any of that, and he pursuaded Steve to ride, even loaning him his Suzuki. Someone else donated boots to the cause while someone else came up with a pair of rain pants. After placing second overall, Steve was glad he rode! ****************** No Prequalifying Enter By Mail ***************** AMA MEMBERSHIP REQUIRED MAY BE PURCHASED AT TRACK - $15 ALL CLASSES ~1cc lautomatlca 4-8 years) 86cc17·11 years) 8&C 100c 12IiC 86B 100B 12&B 8&A 12&A OPEN C SENIOR 130-49) OPEN B SUPER SENIOR lOver 40 yra.) 2IiOA OPEN A POWER PUFF ATV /3-WHEELERS) LIMITED TO TWO CLASSES 2IiOC 2IiOB CLOSING DATE FOR ENTERING: Ja..ary 15TH DON'T LOSE OUT - ENTER NOW! - ENTRY FEE: REDUCEDI MAIL CHECK. Harrison, Woslck, Schlag score at SHRMX By Sally Sideliner BRENTWOOD, CA, NOV. 29 Sand Hill Ranch continues to attract more riders each week as Tom Anderson keeps adding new twist, turns and jumps per the riders' suggestions... and the 125cc Juniors loved it today. Holeshot by Vernon Forsyth for the uphill start, a new Junior, Chris Plain from Oakland Yamaha, took the lead in the first tum coming from 10th off the gate. Tum two and Forsyth took his lead back but Plain kept a close second. On every uphill, Chris's Yamaha closed the gap, and on the third lap he made his move and ran. Brian Otto began to close on Forsyth and made his move on the last lap. Holding fourth all this time was Dave Moreci. The second moto was a different story. Moreci and George Hopper (riding his first Junior race) led up the hill. Moreci continued on the left tum, and Hopper was pushed off the track. Otto quickly took the lead through the right-hand tight sand comer with Callahan, Barazoto and Scott Perry in close pursuit. Callahan made his move on the uphill to overtake Moreci. The moto went to Otto and Moreci with Otto getting the overall. Many well-known hot shoes lined up for Open Expert. Donnie Cantaloupi was on a 1982 KTM, local Joey Schlag on a 1981 KTM. Alan Berlutti. Blue Plate number one, and Doug McRae, the "Keystone Kid," were also there. Joey and Donnie came from opposite sides of the gate to form a perfect triangle up the hill. CantaJoupi crested the hill first gaining five seconds on Joey. Dave Coupe followed for third with Berlutti and Kelly Barry right behind. Schlag closed the gap on the downhill and ran wheel to wheel with the other KTM when Donnie suddenly started slowing down after losing a chain. A quick fix for a SO· yard ride and off again, which put Donnie out for the day. Although Joey now held a terrific lead, McRae and Berlutti both battled for third. Berlutti finally got by, and second place Coupe got a flat, dropping to fourth. Second moto racing was just as good as Schlag and Coupe led the laps with
