After hitting Stateline, many picked
up their pace in the last 40 or so miles
to Las Vegas. Along the way several
hit a very wet dry lake just past Stateline. Some hit it literally, for the mud
had all the traction of glare ice. One
well-known D-g? Expert (who shall remain nameless save for the fact that
he's the one who has a dog on the gas
tank) crashed twice there.
, During a brief stop on the last stretch,
I asked Harry from New Yqrk if he· re-
greued coming all the way to California
to ride in such weather. "Certainly
not." he replied, "Back home we'll
have to wajt for three months before
we can at least ride in inclement weather.
At the finish there was relief -
warmth, dry clothing, the bright ligh
of Las Vegas. We'd gone 130.4 mi
through existing roads and trai
enough bad weather to last a lifetim
and we had a good time doing it.
