Behrendt clinches ARRA' # J. at WIllow By Lori Tyson ROSAMOND, CA, NOV. 8 Dave Behrendt assured himself of the 1982 Number One plate at the last American Road Racing Association meet of the year at Willow Springs, by showing up and just finishing his race. But there was a lot of hard work involved throughout the rest of the year for Dave, as well as the rest of the racers who helped to make this year so exciting. Steve Sowden took the win in the 600cc Box Stock race, but by taking second, Dennis Lagreco won the Number Two plate for next year. In 750cc and Open Super Street, Dave Erode, on the 750cc Suzuki of Orange bike, and Rick Mitchell, on the Open class IBCO Gaskets cycle, diced for the lead. With lots of lead swapping, the two continued until the end when Erode crossed the line flI'St~ Chris Steward took the lead in 750cc and Open Box Stock with Kevin Peltz, on a 750, following. In third, Denny Fryer and Aaron Post fought it out. Steward took the flag fint with Peltz still in the number two spot. In the 125-200cc GP and 250cc Super Street contest, Danny Cae took a big lead. The race to watch was between Steve Stevens and Gary Pendc;rgrasa for second. After some dicing, Pendergrass crossed flI'St (behind Cae) with Stevens settling for third overall (fint 250). The 600-900cc and Open FourStroke GP race was next with Rick Mitchell taking an early lead. But by lap two, it was a three-way battle for fint between Mitchell, Dave Erode and Jeff Stanley. In the end, it was Standley on his War1and Engineering Kawasaki who took home the number :me trophy. Don Greene grabbed the 250cc GP lead and held off Dave Erode until the founh lap when mechanical problema forced him out. Erode took the lead after that and kept Mike Haller back in second till the end to win it. The 6OO1750/Open Production race was red-flagged midway thrbugh when Denny Fryer's Honda tame apan going into tum two and blew pieces of motor all over the traclr. along wjth loss of oil. Denny did some din tracking but ran out of room and had to lay it down. A Ducati rider wasn't 50 lucky, as his bike hit the oil be.fore the flags came out and left the traclr. a brand new bike but landed as a pile of parts. Luckily, no one was hun. The last race of the day, 500cc GP, was another close contest between Dave Erode and Don Greene. With darkness closing in, Erode finished in the number one spot followed by Greene and Kevin Peltz.
