The event had a crowd of 20 ATV enthusiasts and about 110 Dune Buggy enthusiasts. There was plenty of non-stop racing action for a straight six hours as the spectators cheered their favorites on. The first class of the day, were the ATC 1205 which saw entries of Donnie 'Mize. Mi.Ite Swaim, and Joe Reason. At the drop of the flag the riders drag raced to tum one which is a left bander on a 1l0" bank. The line-up into the bowl had set-up Swaim. Mize. and Reasons. respectfully. The entire five lapper finished in the same order. The ATC 220cc class was the second race of the day. where riders Greg Mann, Pat Loeffler, Wilson Holloway, and Brent Belcher brought their three-wheelers to the line. For the entire first two laps around the 2.4 mile course the placement of Belcher. Holloway. Loeffler, and Mann remained the same. On lap three into tum 10, Holloway got high sided, pitching him off"while Loeftler filled the position of second place. Mann brought up third place, as Holloway was down long enough to lose both spots. The heavy action was to occur in the third race when the ATC Open riders kick started their 250Rs to life, the Odyssey class also lined up. Into tum one saw three 250Rs and one Odyssey producing quite a thick cloud of dust. As the riders struggled through the dusty, turn two exposed the order of Mark Holloway, Bill Plemons (Odyaey entry), and Mike Swaim, in pursui~ of Holloway and Plemons. As the racmg .. became tight, the course didn't offer enough passing room until tum 12 where Reasons took over the FL250. Holloway was thumbing the throttle trying to lose the back door pursuit by Reasons, it was a fine riding display of the two. The weight factory came into play here on two identical machines, Reasons was struggling to show a two second per lap gain on Holloway, until lap four, a choked out filter slowed Reasons, leaving a finish of Holloway, Swaim, and Reasons. OCT. 1l&:4 Despite cold and rain, National AlV AsIlociation die·harcJs turned out to complete the 1981 season at Yankee Lake MotoeroliIi, Brookfield,OH. Participants from Ohio, Michigan. Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey battled an extremely muddy course for Saturday's heats and the Sunday features. Numerous breakdowns on both days eliminated many of the machines during the competition. The growing popularity of the three-wheeler was evident as six gals vied for the flTSt place trophy, with Ohio's Judy Pangborn, who was the' leader of the pack. In addition to the regular schedule of three, four and six wheelers, a three-wheeler 20 lap Enduro attracted 15 riders in three classes.
