The points standings took a beating with several driven moving up, some down, virtually putting a greater emphasis than before on the outcome of the "Super Nationals." Overall points leader John Tamu· lonis of Banning, CA, after putting a brand new paint job on the "Ragamuffin Too," also put the jinx on his winning streak. Tamulonis lost both days, changing his comfonable overall points lead significandy. John is now combing the paint stores of Banning trying to find someone who sells "faded purple". Don McCleary of Hemet, CA, had tIM: most productive rae.: day of all the dnven, as he won his. Bracket 7, Group B, both days, movmg from the third spot to the number one position i.I!. Group B, and only 78 points behind Tamulonis and the overall lead. Last year's overall Bracket Points Champion, Keith Longerot of Buena Park, CA, is in a real batde with John Weaver for the lead in Bracket Group A. Lo~t normally runs in Bracket 2 with his supercharged VW-powered "No Doz" draper, and Weaver runs a . big block Chevy-powered buggy in bracket 4. A very unique match up. However, Longerot actually detuned "No Doz" to qualify lower to get in Bracket 4, just to run Weaver in an attempt to unseat him, meaning !D0re round points.Should the plan work out, Weaver would in tum, lose round points and a win to Longerot.
