The weather was perfect. the coune layout was great with the IeCOod loop cmering lOme new ground and the desert was finally put back into racing. But just for the larger bushes. rocks and perhaps thousands of us who dis· appeared behind them Sunday morn· ing. where were they? BRUCE MacDONALD Spokebenden M.C. Help. pro rid..... mechanics and .pomaorsl The fInt of two meetings to discuss 1985 rules for AMA Professional racing will be held on Dec. 2-5. As the riden' representative, 1 would like to know of any suggestions that you might have to help promote better and safer racing. Please remember that 1 am one of 15 memben on the board and cast but one vote. With your input, 1 can bring your suggestions up for discussion and aIBt the other 14 members to our prob· Iems and hopefully correct them for the benefit of everyone. All Professional riden should have received forms to use to send in their rule proposals. If. not. write your proposal down on anything. sign it and send it to me and I will faithfully carry it to the AMA meeting. Time is of the essence. as I have to send a copy of all proposals to the AMA by Nov. 7. GARY SCOTT 4580 South Tecumseh Rd. Springfield, OH 45502 What'lIlt B-LM7 It is an accepted fact in the ORV community that the "Barstow to Vegas Trail Ride" for 1981 will take place November 28. 1981. 1 know this because the Bureau of Land Management's staff has stated as such. 1 have written the Bureau of Land Management seeking information regarding what their plans are for this Thanks· giving weekend. Last year, BLM was on site and handed out maps and took care of fInt ••••••• 11 • • • • aid. We, the off·roaden would like to do this, but tbinp would then be "or· pnized" and tboee people tryiDg to help could end up in court. Because BLM was on hand last year. I am assuming that the Bureau is p1anuing to do the same thing this year; they will not let the ORV community do it (because they won't isIIUe a permit)1 By issuing a permit for the B to V. any problems would be alleviated. The B to V Trail Ride may be run legally if groups of less than SO are maintained. I will penonally be riding with a group which will be less than 10. perfecdy legal. Nice, huh? If you are planning to ride from Bantow to Vegas on November 28. 1981. I would suggest that you plan ahead with regard to hotel resenoations in Las Vegas and call the Bureau of Land Management and ask them what they are planning to do with this year's Bantow to Vegas. Because they know that the Bantow to Vegas takes place every year. yet will not isIIUe a permit for it. I must assume that they are becoming sponson because they had handed out maps and provided fust aid in past yean. As of the date of this letter, I have received no reply from the Bureau of Land Management to a letter requesting information as to their plans for Thanksgiving Weekend 1981. CoIIRI" vative estimates show 1.000 din bilten to be on hand along with 100 four· wheel-drive vehicles and possibly 1.000 street riden along with an appropriate number of pit crews and spectaton. I sure hope that BLM knows what they are doing! Make it easy on yourself. BLM; issue a pennit. let the off·roallen run id Please, let's not have any of the double talk we got last year. We were told a permitted race may take plan in February 1981. per Jim Moees. Well. what happened to it? TX Happy half mile rider This letter is in answer to "Upset half mile rider" whose letter appeared in the Nov. 4 edition of Cycle News. I. too. was at the Oct. 16 D-57 half mile run by the Lightweights M.C. First. although sign-up was from 5 to 5 p.m. and I didn't want to miss work. I enjoy the sport of riding. So I got off early to enjoy my sport. Secondly. it's true that the entry fee was $14. But the $6 pit pass was entirely up to the rider. I happen to have three people I would have liked to take to the race with me. So I made a choice; take my wife and leave my two kids with a babysitter. Thirdly. I'm the grandpa of the 125cc class. All the kids call me that or "old man." I spent $14 for an entry. $6 for a pit pass 10 my wife could go with me. and $12 for a babysitter so we could to have some good. clean fun. At 45 yean young and racing against the kids in the l2Sec class. I'd be happy if I could win a litde wooden plaque. If you want big trophies or money. race Pro races. When you get that petty. you take all the sport out of racing. No one is twisting arms to make them come out to the races. It·s a good. clean, decent sport.
