Central Pipeline er than when he left. He tiptoed through massive piles of broken bikes and bodies in the second moto to take the Ex pert overa11. Beckham's Maico led the charge off of the line in the first moto, trailed by O'Leary's Yamaha pilot Johnny Mid· d1eton and Honda-mounted Billy Harrison. Middleton and Harrison put on a battle while Beckham pulled a disappearing act. Things heated up as fourth.place Mike Farmer (465 Yam) began to feel pressure from rela tive Jerry Farmer (250 Yam) that pushed him up behind Harrison. Harrison got "slideways" coming out of a hairpin, and Mike squirted past. Mike closed the gap on Middleton and jumped past him going over some triple jumps. Middleton was forced to go wide, letting both Mike and Harrison past. Beckham continued to run effortlessly in front. He picked up the win followed by Mike Farmer and Harrison. John Ham (250 Suz) seemed determined to better his last place effort in the first moto. He came off the line to holeshot the second moto. Mike Farmer and Beckham came out of the flTSt turn nearly side by side. Beckham tried to get on the gas sooner than Farmer, but he was a hair too anxious.' By gassing it before the bike was straight up he got a tiny bit sideways, and Farmer jetted into second. In front of the stands, Beckham took the high line over the triple jumps and held it on to pass Farmer. Ham suddenly had Beckham breathing down his neck and turned up the wid. Coming into the infield, it looked as if Ham might hold onto his lead when be pulled off of tbe track for no apparent reason. Ham began poking around under his fuel tank as the pack, led by Beckham. disappeared into the night. With Ham out, real carnage started. In the second slot was Jim Troudt, next to him in the number three slot was Onniston. On the outside was Reichardt. Had the track been a blue groove, hard pack surface, Reichardt probably wouldn't have had a chance, but because of the heavy and wet surface, the outside slot on the line was as good as any place. Borgman got the holeshot with Troudt and Ormiston right on his tail. Because of the traction out wide, Reichardt was able to get by both Troudt and Ormiston before the back straight. Borgman and Reichardt put on a real show rattling bars for two very fast laps. Coming out of turn four on the second lap, Reichardt was able to get by Borgman when he lost his spark. By this time reichardt had built a slight lead over Ormiston and Troudt. Ormiston was able to hold off Troudt for second while Reichardt went on to win the second main for the night.
