Bench bounced back with a holeshot in round two u "Comeback" Kyle Landrum (Suz) shadowed him in second. On lap nine Landrum led the freight train of riders who eued put a tiring Bersch. By the end of round two Landrum had paced himself to an easy win ahead of a heated three way battle for second that wu headed by Surber with Clements and Sullivan finishing third and fourth. At one time it appeared Sullivan might overcome Landrum's pace, however, Sullivan's second round soil sample prevented him from challenging the leader, who rode by himIelf for most of the exciting round two. Overall it wu Sullivan (I· 4), Surber (5·2), Clement (2·5), and Tinney (5·6). Because of the AMA's points breakdown, Sullivan's 1·4 wu worth 45 points where the 2·5 or 5·2 efforts of Clements and Surber netted them 42 points. The 250cc Pro action wu never more competitive and u the series hexan at Burleson it ended in Wliimey. with a Kirk Dillon (Yam) holeshot. Dillon had it wired before the "Boner" Davey Jones (Suz) boogied by on lap seven. Jones had come from a futh place start to take the lead and eventual win. Dillon wu a quick/con· sistent second and u round one came to an end Maby Mcintyre (Yam) found himself in third ahead of Utah's Terry McGinnis (Yam), "Gassin' " Glen Goodier (Hon) and Willie Phee (Hus). Round two got off to a blitzing pace u Jones took the lead around tum one. Tim "Too Tough" Butler (Yam) did the boogieing in round two u he piloted his WRW mount putJonea in lap two. Butler was untouchable from that point on u JOO5 rode by himself in second. Butler's first win on the 250cc came in round two u the SO minute plus two lap moto came to an end with Jones remounting after a turl' test for second with Dillon in third, California's Juan "The One" Benavidez (C·A) in founh after a pair of soil samples, and Mcintyre in fifth after round two~ a~on. ~ll it wu Jones (1·2), Dillon (2·5), Mcintyre (5· 4), Goodier (5·6), McGinnis (4·9) and Jimmy Neil (Yam 7·7). The Open class had its share of surprises and when the action filled races had ended, Las Vegu' Kevin Davis (Mai) had taken overall honors. "Dynamite Dan" Conway rode his red rocket to the round one win after blitzing by early leader Davis. Conway wu on cruise control u he sped away from the talented field, while Davis paced himself in second, and Mcintyre wu mavin' on in third. Round two appeared to be a carbon copy of one, until u in week's gone by, Dynamite Dan's day ended with a DNF. Davis wu close by when fate waved its mystical wand over Conway. Davis took the overall win with Conway on the sidelines u McIntyre, who is tougher than dirt, manhandled his Yamaha support YZ to second with Mike Bradshaw (Hus) moving up the ladder for third.
