They took off on foot for the six·mile course ahead and alened TRH checken that the fInt checkpoint was off. No way could these guys know that on foot, but they were right. Sunday the rider turnout stood at 599, one more than last year's and the female riden were bountiful aoo. The A&: B course was 118.5 miles long and the C course was 6.41. With all those participants TRH felt it would be wise to lease the services of an ambulance, which is not a requirement of the state enduro circuit. Unfortunately, it was utilized by a fellow who jabbed a stick through his boot and into his foot. The fint A &: Briden were due in to our 72-mile check point at 12 noon. We were all set to go when we heard a bike through the woods at 12:04. False alarm it was only Chris Hardy surveying his area. He left and we heard another bike at 12;09, another false alarm in the form of Guy Burkhardt who buzz bombed us and yelled, "Hello kids" as he flew by. We were beginning to think this was all a joke and we weren't really on the course at all till at 12;14 our number one minute rider clocked in. For the remaining three houn we wrote on score cards that were inside tank bags, around necks, down shirts, on fenden or taped to gas tanks. At least Tina didn't pull her last year's stunt of asking a rider where their card was and when they said, "Down there," she lifted up the shirt only to have the rider scream and notice it was wearing a bra. Better luck next time Tina. Our most interesting rider was one who wore big fuzzy white bunny ean which 'remained surprisingly clean after all the mud they had gone through. According to Jim Straley the course was, "One of the longest on the circuit and I like it that way. It was very difficult to maintain the average which was from 18 to 24 miles per hour. Along with the familiar trails they put in a lot of new ones. We had a couple of bad mudholes before the second check which a lot of guys were stuck in and there were several deep gullies, erosion ditches, which were unusual." Sandy Pinkston, who won the Open B class, felt the course was, "Well makred. J .. J):JjIJ~ffll·'{:·tJJj lJtl The second section was tough, a lot of mudholes, but the whole course was J(OOd. When I was ~.th of a mile away from the fInish line I ran out of gas, some guy stopped and gave me some of his and I ran out just as I C11lIIed the line. I missed winning overall by five points." Sandy hasn't missed many more though, as he won Thurber as well. • Results OVERALL A: Joe~ 125 A: 1. JtH KrIng; 2. Ed W-,; 3. Nornwl DtItnw. 200 A: 1. Gent Kv-; 2. leo _ : 3. John Ilcnlng. 250 A: 1.
