Today only four of them were racing. Bobby Poe got out in front of Kenny Gempletin at the start on his Honda ATC to score a I-I win at Rio Bravo. MX Park. Running half a lap behind them was Chris James and Bill Howard. both riding Yamahas. Around the fifth lap Gempletin tried to execute a pass on Poe but went too high. giving Poe extra ground between them. Poe took off first again with Gempetin following close. James didn't show for this second moto so Howard raced himself around the coune. usually half a lap or more behind the leaders. The white flag came out with Poe still leading and the next time around there was some confusion at the fmish line. The flagman forgot to flag Poe as the winner and Gempleton sped past him and continued on the track. Poe turned around and looked questioningly at the flagman who evidendy lost traclt of the race and told him he had one more to go. He took off after Gempletin, who by now was out of sight. The mis· take, however. was lOOn rectified.
