CA 91770 = 12131442·14141213) 283-6.34 C The first race of the night found Rob Sclvy out front and pulling away, fmishing with a perfect 1·1 score, George Ferrie made a 2·2 score in chus 6. Robbie Lee spiced up his night with a 1-1 score in class 4. Tim Hoy placed himself first in class 5, with Greg Heasley taking the trophy in class 2 competition. Race 2, class 5, division 1 fea tured Roger Hammond and Ron Benson having a good race with Hammond •taking command for a 1·1 score. Steve Wright's fast Yamaha YZ125 powered ATV dominated the division 2 class with Pat Rogers second. In race 5 the high zoot class 8 riders were Dean Sundahl, a team Honda rider who recently won the SCORE off·road race at Rivenide Raceway, and John Benders who has been cleaning up on Thunday nights in Oval rac· ing. At the stan of the race there was a good dice between the two, but eventually it was Sundahl who finished fint. In class 7 it was Chris White who finished 1-2 for first overall over David McNealy, John Andre, and Tim Campbell. All riden had a good rac e. Not such good luck went to Steve Wright who DNF the first heat, but came back and won the second. Odyueyoval Class I, division I, went to David Wulf, who was having fun all night racing against second placer Steve Browser, and third placer Mark White. Jack Polumbo has a winning streak, at Corona in class I, and this night wasn't any different. Polumbo bested Meryl Minnier in division 2. Race 5 saw Steve Coley and Chris Polumbo taking first and second places respectively in c1ass 2, division I, with Sam Arciero. edging out Jack Wilson for the division 2 laurels. Race 6 was the class 5 drivers, Jeff Springman having a 1-1 night in oval racing. FlfSt heat Springman and Jeff Bagley were dicing when Bagley went into tum 1 a little too hot and ~ped back to founh place. BogIey fuUshed 4-2 for second overall. Rick Bell drove to a 1-1 score with no pressure. Jack Poet, who fmished second, didn't have enough honepower to spin the wheels in the turns and could only cruise the track, while o~rsDNF. . Division 2, Jerry Evans moved up after slow starts to finish with 2·1 and Jack Palumbo, a1Io driving well, finish· ing 1-5 and second overall. Racing was clOle in class 2, divisions 1 and 2. In heat 1 Roben Duran, Bob Thompson and Chris Polumbo were racing wheel to wheel. Thompson was running in second when he endoed his Odyssey over a jump and dro~ to founh. but moved back. up to third. Duran toolr. the trophy with a 1·2 score. Division 2 winner was Sam Arciero having Wes Moser clOled behind finishing 1·5 for second place. Class 5 Odyssey win went to Jeff Springman, who also won the Oval event. Second went to Terry Smith, followed by Gary Reitsma. Class 5 drivers all had their share of bad Iud. Stan with Rory Halladay, who had a bad air leak in practice and never made the program. Then Ken Rikers who DNF both heats, and Ron Bums DNF the first heat and in the second heat was on his way to an easy win, and the spark plug blew out of his Maico·powered Odyssey for a disap· pointing night. Jack Poet, the eventual winner, had a 1·1 score, but has a lot of problems with his car not handling properly in the turns. In' ATCoff-roed Bob Weber, a usual winner, won his class 5, division 1 with 50-yard leads in both heats with]ack Bass 5-2 and Mike Sharrow 2·5 following. Division 2 was dominated by Steve Wright, a fast competitor on his Yamaha powered ATV, beating runner·up Pat Rogers, and third placer Ron Benson. The overall went to Greg Heasley, who drove to a perfect 1·1 score In class 2, and Roy Haines was the first to see the checkered flag in class 5 offroad. Race 9 was the ra~e that caught the spectators' eye, with the high honepowered ATC's of cJa.es 7 and 8. Dean Sundahl again smoked the field with a perfect score ahead of Bob Masai, on his Anaheim Honda sponsored watercooled ATC 250R, and again Steve Wright. Class 7 action went to Chris White. Dicing with White were Mike Chester and Tun Campbell. The racing was c1olIe, fast and exciting with riders push. ing each other to their limits. John Andre didn't thinlr. too much of his binhday after crashing hard and wreclr.ing the bike in his first heat. Anybndy else would have gone home after that, but not Andre, he came back for the second heat and finished third place. Race 10, class 6 was also a hot race as Rob Selvy pulled away to an 80 yaro lead leaving a battle for second between George Ferrie and Scott Gauley. The two riders were pushing from wire to wire with Gauley taking the runner-up position, leaving third place to Ferrie.
