PumilIa blasts Southways Race Park ~ ..... ~ CD .c ~ o By Maureen Daspit Daniels PICAYUNE, MX, SEPT. 12 en Paul Pumilia rode a 175 TriMota converted to a 100cc engine and ttophied first overall in the Beginners class at Southways Race Park. ~ z ~ In the fint heat, Claude Pumilia pulled the bo1esbot followed. by Micbae:l Stuben. Ending the ftnt lap, Paul Pumilia was in last place, but on the second lap Pumilia passed Chip Daniels and Dana Hover and Barrett Flowers of Jerry's Kawasaki in Slidell, LA. passed Stuben for the lead. In the third lap, Pumilia passed two more riders, fint Stuben, then Flowen to hold the winning spot from that point to the checkered. Meanwhile, Daniels moved up f.rom behind, pressuring Flowen. In the sixth lap Daniels made his move into second but shonly thereafter, Daniels had problems w~th his machine, forcing him out of competition. Kawasaki rider Flowen finished second followed by Stuben and Hover. In the second heat ·Daniels got his problems solved and claimed the holeshot, but Pumilia made some swift moves, taking the lead ending the second lap. Fine riding by Pumilia brought him all the way to the checkered in finto Flm.:ers passed Hover and Stuben during the heat and met the checkered in second. In the third heat, Flowers grabbed the boIeshot. Ending the beat, however, Pumilia finished fint once again; Flowers second. In the 80- UOcc Modified class, Gerald Colopy and Nolan Tollett of The Big Mohoff in Metaire, LA, batt1ed for first place money. The Southside Cycles class, a free class intended to introduce stock 0150cc trikes into racing made for a lot of excitement. Charles Colopy, Chip Daniels, Derek Tollett of The' Big Mohoff and Jeff Routly representing Southside Cycles really switched up places in the three heats. In the final scoring, Colopy, this being his fint race, trophied fint overall. The Powder Puff class brought four never-raced-before women to the line. Jerry's Kawasaki offered Maureen Daniels their KLT %00 to race. Although the Kawasaki got Daniels around well in' fint, Aileen Billiot on Southways' Tri-Moto stayed right with Daniels through all three heats. Billiot was really excited winning a fint place trophy in her very fint race. Mary Bolling rode a Tri-Moto for the fint time ever. The Tri-Moto was supplied to her by The Big Mohoff, and Bolling trophied second overall and Charlotte Gamble of Nicholson, MS, trophied third. The Kawasaki KLT brought out by Jerry's in Slidell is the first one to race at Southways. The KLT was entered in a total of four classes and proved to be competitive.
