Jimmy Rosa flat ran away with the 250cc Money IT. Ken Corpe had been a strong challenger in the heat race but could do no more than follow him home in the main. Greg Nelson was third. Rosa looked to be doing a repeat performance in the Money half mile but he didn't count on Robert Land, a tricky little devil from up nonh. Perry Prioette was the first one to fall by the wayside when his engine went belly up on the third lap. Rosa, Land and Nelson were freight training around as the laps wound down. The slick move from Land came on the last lap in tum two when Rosa got high and that was it as Land was by and gone in the bat of an eye. Rosa still got the second with Nelson third. Land didn't have to use any of his trick moves in the 250cc Expert half mile as he went wire to wire. Joe Peter· son got a bad start but let all the stops out and had nailed down second by the fourth lap. The Amateurs. were also racing at the same time and two fairly recent transfers gave a very good account of themselves. Bobby BeeT stayed right with the Experts but got a surprise from first·time Amateur Bob Gabler, when Gabler blew by him on the fifth lap. After Beer recovered from the shock he came right back and took charge again. One lap later Gabler slid out in tum two and Jeff Runyan ended up with the place honors. Pete.rson did much better on the IT wbere he let Don Driggs take the lead at the start while he worked his way from fourth to first in one lap. Ken Corpe tucked in behind him with Bobby Beer in the third spot. They finished in that order. Vince Landry and Craig Armstrong had a match race in the Open Expert half mile. Bill Matherson was in it at the start but he tangled with Armstrong, so the race was restarted. Armstrong went out on top and held it for two laps before Landry got by. Landry seemed to have horsepower on Arm· strong and looked to have things sewed up, which is not the premise of racing. On the last lap coming out of turn four, Armstrong set up beautifully, came down low and powered by Landry for the win. Landry had almost the same thing happen to him on the IT only this time it was Jimmy Rosa who snatched it away from him at the halfway point. Results IT MINI NOV: 1. Kevin Amb'ose IYaml; 2. Holland, Grossi ride wire to wire at CMC Carlsbad MX By Myron Hemley CARLSBAD, CA. AUG. 9 George Holland rode flawlessly the entire day to take the overall in the 125cc Pro class at the Con· tinental Moto·sprots Club's Carls· badMX. Holland and Dean Cates came flying out of the gate leading into the first tum of the first moto. Holland came out of the tum first with Cates second and Richard Coon and Rick Johnson even in third. Coon and Johnson battled like two wild men. Johnson passed Coon going over the ledge but Coon wasn't going to settle for fourth as he repassed Johnson on the uphill. Johnson charged back on the fourth lap as he nailed Coon on the same pan of the uphill that he was passed on earlier. Johnson caught up to Cates on the seventh lap, going past over the top of the uphill only to be repassed. Johnson stayed with Cates until the 12th lap where he passed Cates on the first tum and then staned after Holland. Coon moved up and passed Cates on the last lap. Holland finished with Johnson about three bikelengths back in second after he just rat) out of laps. Coon held onto third with Cates coming in fourth. The second moto was a much differ· ent type of race, but once more Hoiland got the holeshot. Johnson was second. Coon third and Cates founh. Holland opened up a small lead and held on to it for the next few laps. John· son, Coon and Cates each held their places with small leads over the next, By the sixth lap Johnson staned closing Holland's lead little by little. After six long laps Johnson had closed Holland's lead down to only two bikelengths. Hoi· land held off every attempt made by Johnson to take over the lead. Holland and Johnson finished 1-2 with Coon and Cates coming in 3-4. In the 500cc Pro class Bill Grossi rode wire to wire in both motos and finished each leading by more than 15 seconds. Grossi took his lead early in both motos after getting the holeshot in both. In the first moto Grossi led Nick Hartnoll, Maby McIntyre, Mike Rose and Dave Burger. Hannoll went
