The 250cc Pro class was dominated by Track N Travel's Ed Arnet, who won back to back on his Maico. Moto one saw Arnet being pushed by teammate Russ Wageman, but Wageman had to settle for second as third went to Montclair Yamaha's Greg Zitterkopf. Round two saw Arnet pulling the lead again with O'Neal's Kenny Zahn pressuring from second and Zinerkopf again in third. Arnet held on for the win with Zitterkopf and Wageman taking second and third overall. Zitterkopf returned in Open Pro competition, and there was no stopping him. He piloted another Yamaha to back to back wins, holding off the strong charges of second place rider Greg Torgerson and third place Rob Tolleson. In the Open Intermediate ranks Palmdale Maico pilot Chris Mallory was a back to back winner, followed home by Frank Costanzo (Yam) and Matt Johnson (Mai). Kawasaki rider Jim Collier was another back to back winner as he held court in the Mini Intermediate class. Suzuki rider Lance Johnson followed in second with Yamahamounted Gary Miller taking third. 00 0') Results Jim Holley posted the125cc Pro win at CRC's N8tive Amerlcen Dunes motocross. SImons says win at AME Summer SerIes round tour By Laura Richard VALENCIA, CA, AUG. 7 The disbelievers from the previous week took no chances of missing another round of the American Motocross Enterprises Summer Series, and over 200 riders were on hand for the Friday night event under the lights at Indian Dunes. In the first moto of the I25cc Pro class Yamaha support rider Jim Holley grabbed the lead with Simi Cycle Suzuki-mounted Jim Simons hot on his tail. Holley held on to take the moto win with Simons second and another Yamaha suppon rider, Steve Schmitz, third. Round two blasted off the line with S~mons in first and second being hody 44 ... discussed by Holley and Schmitz. Holley went down as the two came around one of the tight comers, and Schmiu only got one comer further before he was hit with bike troubles. That gave second and third to Foothill Yamaha teammates Robbie Healey and Paul Lane. Snorteland rIps at CRC IndIan Dunes MX By Lee Taylor VALENCIA, CA, AUG. 16 Despite the draw of a National race at Carlsbad, Indian Dvnes fans were treated to some of the finest racing ever to be found on any Sunday, on any track. The track in this case was the International, and for a change, ran backwards by the California Racing Club. Once more, it was Pete Snorteland's day. The Yamaha support ace took a pair of wins in the 250cc Pro contest and then went on to take the overall Open Pro win. The first 250cc Pro moto saw Snoneland lead from the stan.
