In Division 2 Team Yamaha's Johner Kight of California took moto one with Bobby Moore, also from California, taking second on a Yamaha. In moto two Kight controlled the fLrst part of the race, but Ken Dunlap puslied past on his Yamaha only to have Kight regain the lead. California's Dunlap kept the pressure on as Kight faded, eventually winning with Sam Storer of California putting his Kawasaki into second. Kight held third. In the Division run-off Blake took the holeshot and set off for the finish line with zero mistakes en route. Dunlap, Yamaha mounted Larry Brooks of California and Peters trailed with Johnson and Campbell clashing off a jump while fLghting over fLfth. The motos were only six laps long and it was a sprint to the finish with Blake never tested. Dunlap stuck in second until the fLnal lap when his engine staned to bog and Brooks scooted by for the runner-up slot. Dunlap took third with Campbell fourth. lMake clinched the class title with a 4-1-1 tally with Dunlap and Campbell' following in points. Junior Cycle 60cc ModifLed (6-8) action was fast with North Carolina's Damon Bradshaw the fastest on his Yamaha. In moto one Bradshaw pulled ·a huge holeshot and progressively expanded his cushion on second place. Bubba Erickson from California on a Kawasaki and Hank Moree on a Yamaha from South Carolina were at it for the bridesmaid slot with Moree edging ahead. Yamaha mounted Tommy Clowers from California joined the pair and the three crossed the line in a cluster. In moto two Bradshaw again jammed out front and rode his own race. Erickson was second, and his 3-2 score put him second to Bradshaw in class standings after Moree posted a disappointing 13th in moto two. Run-off action in the 83cc Stock Intermediate class had Suzuki rider Mike Healey from California and Kawasaki rider William Surratt, also of California going at it the entire race. Healey held the lead to win with Surratt on identical lines all the way. Once past the checkers the pair shared a gentlemanly handshake. Healey took the class title with Surratt down in standings due to lower fLnishes in his division motos. The IOOcc Modified J uniol'! (through 15) run -off was the property' of Team Yamaha's Ron Lechien on an '82 machine. He showed the way all the way, but came into the final with too poor of finishes to claim the title. Brad Sexton from Arkansas took his Yamaha to the class win after probable winner Scooter Stafford dropped out. Stafford, a Team Green rider from Louisiana who went into the final with a 1·1 in his division, had an injury stop his charge. "I fell and picked the bike up, and saw blood on my jersey and thought it was one of those burns you get all the time," said Stafford. "Then 1 couldn't handle the pain and pulled off. I broke my arm and cut my elbow to the bone'" The big downpour made for hard times for the Junior Cycle Modified Novice (9-11) run--off on Sunday. It was slip, slide and fall with every incline a major obstacle for the little guys. Todd Neal from Georgia knew his lines through the muck and took the win on a Yamaha. A real second effort was put out by Chris Whisenant of Oklahoma on a Yamaha whose bike snuffed out on the last straight. Chris wasn't happy until he had muscled the bike across the finish line. After all the races were run and points were tallied everyone headed across the street from the race track Bob Hannah gave a wave as he led a parade of mini thunder through Ponca CItY. Hundreds of entrants filled the streets. Junior Cycle Modified Intermediate 9-11 riders Clay Branch (3471 and Mike Pucarella 11731 haul offtha start. Rohnla Denaford (411 heads a Pee Wee Stock start with Mike Mercer 1361 and Bobby Bunn 1471 running close. to the Moose Lodge, where trophies, contingencies. new bikes from Yamaha and dollars from Kawasaki were presented. Some folks stayed and rehashed the week's racing, while others got on the road. headed back to all parts of America to revamp for • next year's NMA Nationals. Results PEE WEE STOCK: 1.
