Advertiaing of your guests from Australia. It certainly was an honor to be in your one big, happy family. We haven't stopped talking about Kawasaki America since we returned home to Australia. We intend to go back in 1982 for the 11th annual NMA World Mini GP at Saddleback Park, hopefully with more Aussies taking part in it. Thanks to Dave and Kawasaki for making it possible for our son Brian to compete with the loan of a KX80. It also made things much easier on Brian's sponsor - his dad! We. his parents. felt that he performed quite creditablyl Also we would like to thank Patti Moorewood, secretary of the NMA, for her introduction to the Jordana. This made it all possible. Look out Americanal I feel sure there will be more Aussies at Saddleback Park in future years, particularly on the green "quakers" (Kawasakis), as we call them down yonder here. Photo by John Hipkiss. . 4 0-38 film-flam Let's start off by quoting a portion of the July 26, 1981 Marysville Moto· CI'OllS flyer. prepared by AMA Motocross promoters Charlie Sexton and Fred Dion, and supported by AMA District !l6: "Boss MX Race scheduled for Prairie City June 26 has been moved to Marysville 'E' Street track by the request of Charlie Sexton to help Dist. !l6 AMA effort to keep CMC from gaining control of Marysville tracks. The race will be run by Boss MX with help and equipment of Marysville MX. Help Charlie keep Marysville AMA. "Please boycott all Marysville CMC races. "Triple blue plate points. "Triple Vet-OT Championship Points. "$!l00 cash prizes to Sportsmen. 'Two $50 drawings in Novice class. ' Two $50 drawings in Jr. class. Two $50 drawings in Vet-OT-PP·Mini combined.'i It should be emphasized at this point, that Riverfront Park in Marysville. CA, where CMC promoter Stu Peters had scheduled a July 26, 1981 race is now a part of the California Parks system. Its off· highway vehicle race coune was established some years ago by the city of Marysville and is now in line for further improvement by use of money from the Green Stickie Fund. Certainly then, it was not created for exclusive use by AMA or AMA race promokn.F~ore, rtwouJd~ that by any stretch of the imagination, the promotion of a race by a CMC promoter does not indicate an attempt by CMC to take over Riverfront Park. The July, 26 AMA race described in this flyer was originally being promoted by Fred Dion and was scheduled to be held at Prairie City OHV Park, which is approximately a 90 minute drive from Riverfront Park. Upon learning of the scheduled CMC race at Riverfront Park; Charlie Sexton, Fred Dion and AMA D·!l6 got together. added lots of extra rider benefits and moved the AMA scheduled race from Prairie City OHV Park to another race area in Marysville, approximately a three minute drive from Riverfront Park. Maybe all the riders who supported this sinister event and allowed them- selves to become part of the District !l6 flim-flam, ought to ask themselves a few basic questions; Will all the extra rider benefits offered continue with future AMA races, or were they in reality just another type of bribe? Were they offered because the promoters wanted to do something good for the riders. or was it because they wanted to do something good for themselves? Will a boycott to eliminate a new race promoter really help improve race conditions or give you a better selection of places to race? Certainly though. the contents of the July 26 Marysville MX flyer does have all the characteristics of a no·c1ass at· tempt by all parties involved to eliminate any CMC promoting com· petition in AMA District !l6. FRED STRUNK Auburn, CA '81 6-Hour the last straw This letter goes to all riders, friends and AFM members. There were a lot of you that expressed your dissatisfaction in the way the scoring/results were done; about how it was "a screwed up system," and that I "don't know any· thingt" Well, I will tolerate verbal abuse and harassment no longer. "You" can do it "your" way next year. I'll be on the other side of the fence. I have put a lot of hard of work into making the AFM "the best," but even I have a breaking pointl You have just "broken" me. FLEM JULIASSEN AFM L. A. Scoring Director Team Green thanks Down Under from I would like to thank Kawasaki Motors Corporation of America and their Team Green manager Dave Jordan and his wonderful wife Sandra. What a combination Dave and Sandra are - without them Kawasaki's Team Green wouldn't be the same_ They were always there, walking unobtrusively through camp, giving that word of encouragement or advice. whatever the situation. Thanks a million, Dave and Sandra, from three Honda's three wheeler, the first to finish the Baja. Hal Hal I was the monkey on that Triumph sidehack in June 1971 (Baja 500) and November 1971 (Mexican 1000). When we came to the halfway pont we didn't have a fresh rider to take over and finish the race; we rode the whole way. That's when NORRA ran the races, and the Baja 500 was 480 miles and the Mexican 1000 was about 920 miles. Frank Danielsen, the pilot, was 4!l years old then, and I was 15. (The oldest teamed up ~itb the youngest.) If Honda wants to get the record straight maybe I can get Frank to enter a SCORE event and set another record. because it seems everyone has forgotten about the 1971 .sidehack team. PETEBREUM Santa Monica. CA Will help change speed laws Because of some recent unfair tickets that I've received, I feel compelled to express myself politically. I feel that most speed laws in California are unfair to the motorcyclist trying to keep his body intact while driving the southern California freeways. If anyone knows of an organization that is, or is considering, lobbying in Sacramento for legislative changes, please write to me. I'll give you my support. JIMBRONKE 1725 N.
