Harley·Davidlon·mounted Caillaybom was in the lead when the race was fint halted on lap seven due to dust. After an appearance by the water truck, AMA officials decided to cut the race to a 14-lap total. Rayborn took the lead on the single file restan and led Chuck Palmpen (Yam), Dave Sehl (H·D). Gene Romero (Tri) and Jim Rice (BSA) across the line. Kenny Roberta (Yam) won the Junior main event over Carl LeBlanc (Tri). GOATBREKER SUZUkI t' In Fmland, Giacomo Aso-tini garnered his 10th world title by clinching the 1971 550cc World Road Racing Cham· pionship for MV Augusta. Agostini had been the 550cc champ since 1968 and the 500cc title holder since 1966. In the 125cc clilSll at Finland, Barry Sheene posted another win on a five· year·old ex·worlts Suzuki twin. Paul ConEiiie nipped by Sammy Tanner on the last tum of the last lap to win the Expert feature at Ascot's Park's weeltly AMA Pro half mile. In Junior action" Gary Scott's eight·in·a·row win streak appeared to be in danger when Dennis Kanegae beat Scott in qualify· ing and in their heat race. But Scott came back to win the main event with Kanegae a distant second. In the Nov· ice ranlts, Scott Brebford continued his domination. DARRELL SHULTZ WAYNE BOYER RICHARD COON NOT PICTURED: WARREN REID· STEVE WISE With 10 events run in the AMA Na· tional Championship Enduro Series. Ron Bohn led the point standings with 148. Following him were NotmaD Ford (112) and John Penton (102). Billy Grey (he of TV fame) used his zero·yard line stan to win the Handi· cap main event at Costa Mesa's weekly speedway meet. Ir> the Scratch main, Rick Woods took advantage of a last tum error by Sonny Nutter and took the win. A pair of Ricltman rider took on Ascot's weeltly night motocross and emerged with a pair of wins. Jeff Wright won the 125cc Senior clilSll while Bryar Holcomb, second to Wright in the 125s. posted the 250cc Senior win. The 500cc Expert class. as usual. went to Suzuki·mounted John DeSoto. .... Fremont Raceway opened its doors for its first·ever night scrambles. John Gennai was the man of the evening, taking both the 250 and 650cc Expert main events. In the 2f>Occ class, Gennai led a Bultaco sweep with Rick Hocking and Pat Hennen finishing 2· 3.
