You might say there were pil~ of riders. At least, there were piles here and there in the 1l!5cc Pros. The first pile came in the founh tum after the scratch and consisted of Doug Lange (Kaw), Gary Harkleroad (Yam) and Michael Kinnear (Yam). Up front, Steve Pless (Suz), Loch Names (Yam) and Kevin Ford (Suz) led the pack. On the second loop, Cory Klaudt (Yam) had made a fantastic leap from lIth to fifth when he and Randy Jungwirth (Kaw) came into the final tum a bit too close, and Randy's foot wound up jammed inside Cory's $Wingarm. This pile tied up traffic considerably while the mechanics freed Randy's foot and sent him on his way after about four laps.. 1t took most of the moto to reassemble Corey's bike. Up front, Pless yielded to Ro.y Davis (Yam) on the third lap, but Davis failed te;> come around again. Names held second while Randy Crisman (Suz) picked his way through from a ninth· place scratch to nab third. Ted Holt (Suz) followed him up fTOm 12th JO finish fourth. In the second moto, the top seven .pots were really tight for the entire moto. Rob Watilo (Yam) led the fint three laps while Pless looked for an opening. On the fourth lap, Pless took the lead and left Kevin White (Yam) to work on Watilo. Crisman, Klaudt, Holt and Kinnear were pushing in right behind White. On the final lap, Watilo allowed a momentary opening for White, Holt and Crisman to slip by. When the gate dropped for the fint l!5Occ Pro moto, Ron Sun (Hon) took off with what grew to be a big lonely lead. Kevin JalllCn (Kaw) held a com· fortable second though TlDl Michliacb (Kaw) dOlled the gap a bit OD him in the late laps. Arne Henman (Hon) followed Sun off the line in the second moto but became entangled with Kelly Whelchel (Hon) in the turn before the finish and was dropped to mid·pack. JalllCn was now second again and gettin, prasure from Skeet HiIe (Kaw) until HiIe limped by with a Oat tire. Now Michlitlch was in third. Sun'. pace was dropping, and Michlitlch was charging hard for the last three laps. On the final lap, the three were all bunched up and Tim got by jalllCD, then Sun, then pu11ed off with a dead engine for a DNF. Bruce Irwin (Suz) powered through from the back to finish third. Sun was back in the O~ Pro clau to run almost as far out m front as in the l!5Occ clasa. He had plenty of time to lay it down in the final turn and ret tain his lead. Michlitlch and Henman were back, too, and tangled on the first lap. By the time they sorted out their bodies and bikes. Sun was on his way around again. Darryl Zumstein (Mai) fmished second and Steve Smith (Yam) third. Both are newcomers to the Open clasa. Sun leaped to the front in the next moto with Zumstein leCond. Barney Newman (Mai) moved to second the next time around while Michlitlch moved up to take over on the next loop. Sun had the Oat tire problema this time and laW his lead dwindle until Michlitlch took over with rwo laps left. Zumstein cut under Newman in the final turn to take third. • Results PEE WEE JR: 1.
