Harley"auls at CotonaMX By Carol Campbell CORONA, CA, JUNE 19 It was the 125cc Pros bringing some super racing to Corona Raceway. As the gate dropped on the first moto, it was Rick The second moto found Hall Ftting off the gate fust but right behind was Rogen looking for the overall win, but, Hall had the same idea. Handlebar to handlebar, they went into the Pro Whoops with Hall getting out of them about a wheel ahead of Rogers each time. The tension began to mount as the end of the race grew doeer. Suddenly, as the two lead riden started up the uphill, a lapped rider went down, taking Rogen out with him. Rogen managed to hold onto his lleCond place spot but with only one more lap to ~, there would be no catching Hall. WIth a 2-} ftnish it was Hall taking home the gold with Rogen ftnishing IIeCOnd with a }-2 ICOre and Hollie taking third with a 5-5 finish. The minis were out in force as Chris Taylor (!law) led the Mini Intermediates from start to fmiah of the ftnt moto, finishing right behind Mini Expert rider Tracy Meeks (Yam). The win didn't come as easy in the second moto for Taylor as he found hlmlelf eating the dust of Yamaha rider Jeff Schaeffer. After five laps, Taylor decided to make his move on Schaeffer in the S tum, only to take himself out over the berm. Keeping his cool, Taylor got right back up, never losing a position, and continued after Schaeffer. With wide open throttle, Taylor set his sighu on Schaeffer and on the very last lap Taylor made a move on Schaeffer, but this time he made it stick, taking the overall win with a }. I ftnish. Schaeffer took second place honors with a score of 2·2 and Dan Hammock took third with a 5·5. Eric MacCracken (Yam) made a clean sweep of both the 250 and the 500cc Pro classes, bu t his best com· petition came from a newcomer to ~~.~ Moce.- Noml; 2. Bob IWwoIIneCHonl; 3. Tony~_. Hovis cousIns top mInIs at OCI. MX By Steven Crosby IRVINE. CA, JUNE }8 With school ftnally out and no more alarms to be set, the mini· bike racers really turned up at OCIR for Thursday night action. Winnen in all the amateur classes took home more than trophies as Thor Racing, CEET Racing Producu, and O'Neal gave away merchandise and certificates to the top four in each class. Dan Hovis took the overall honors in the Mini Intermediates with a pair of ftnU. In the ftrst moto Hovis took the holeshot and never looked back. Behind him the competition was rough. Jeff Barbacovi lItarted out in IIeCOnd with Tim Nash third. On the third lap Ken Clifton slipped by Nash for third. On the next lap Clifton and Barbacovi tangled, with Barbacovi ending up on the ground. Clifto~, feeling the effeeu of the incident, was passed by Nash for IIeCOnd on the last lap and then limped his way through the piu. When the gate dropped in the IIeCOnd moto Hovis again JUIllped into the lead. On the IIeCOnd lap he went OYer IDs handlebars when he misjudged the dropoff jump. By the time he picked it up Hovis was in third with Jimmy Palmer in the lead. Barbacovi was lleCond for two lapl until Hovis made a dean inside pas at the finish line. Hovis then pulled right behind Palmer but had trouble Ftting by. Finally, halfway through the last lap Hovis pused him in a hairpin tum and Palmer had to settle for IIeCOnd. Nash's third place ftnish was good enough for lleCond overall. While Dan Hovis took the InterlDediate class. cousin Richie came out on top in the Novice ranks. In the ftrst moto he jumped out into the lead and held to the white flag. That was one lap short of what he needed - by the checkered flag Hovis was third behind Kurt Strand and Ron West. In the second moto Hovis again took the lead from the start, avoided any mishaps and took the win. Hovis' 5-} score took the overall win with West IIeCOnd. Each week the mas of 12Sec Beginnen means K'ftral divisions of action. The best this week was in division two. In the ftnt moto Clay Stanford took
