Densford moves upatAME nIght mlnlcross ByToril Corley VALENCIA, CA,JUNE 19 Ronnie Densford has won everything that he possibly could in the Pee Wee and Junior Cycle classes. While Ronnie is still going to be racing in both of theM' he decided that it was time to move on to sometbing bigger. At tonight's American Motocross Enterprises minicrosa, Densford surprised everyone with a new Yamaha YZ 80. After having it for a few hours and getting just a little practice, he entered tbe 85cc Stock Beginner 12 and under event. . Barely toucbing the ground, Densford found the larger machine to be challenging but at the same time be was able to control it. He started off by winning the first moto against riders much older than binuelf. Lance Homer, who took a bad spill in last week's race, was second in this moto ahead of Garrett Hard. Pro-Trac-sponsored Homer showed his experience with 80cc bikes and led tbe final moto easily as Densford tried to close in. They went past the fmish flag that way with Hard trailing. There was a tbree man battle in the 85cc Stock 9-11 race. The winning rider was none other than David "River Rat" Chambers. Chambers cleaned up in the first moto ahead of Troy Cline from T&:O Yamaha and Matt Harrison. In the fmal moto it was more exciting as Cline and Harrison led briefly till Chambers overcame them both. eveDU, Results 38 PEE WEE STOCK JR: 1. Tony Amorodllo IYoml; 2. Jooon IIiggo IYo""; 3. Baker takes four .of"veat SRAGP BySueSenn RIVERSIDE, CA,JUNE 21 Mike Baker monopolized the day's events at the Southland Racing Association's Father's Day GP, by taking the overall in the 200cc class, the Open race, the father/son race which he won with well known' dad Dallas, and the regular team race which he rode with SCORE's Class 21 leader. Kent Pfeiffer. Mike also rode the 250cc race and took a fairly close second behind Mike Sixbery. From the start to finish in the 81200cc race it was Mike Baker, riding for DB Producu, Hallman, Bell, Total Packaging, Orange County Cycle and Pro·Tech. Behind Baker, Ken Pfeiffer, riding for Premier Yamaha and East-West M.C. was a comfortable second. Behind Kent it was anytbing but comfortable for Bill Mattox, Kurt Pfeiffer, Troy Smith, Roben Miller, Quinton Smith and Scott Pfeiffer. Mattox went out with a flat, Kun (the youngest of the Pfeiffer brothers) moved into third while older brother Scott began playing switcharoo with Miller. "Wild Bill" Holmes joined the fun, then he and Quinton Smith had problems. Oren Beck, Jr. was easily first Amateur, but still attacked Troy Smjth on the last lap, trying to steal sixtb spot for ms own. At the cbeckered it was Baker, Kent Pfeiffer and Kurt Pfeiffer. Scott aced Miller who was followed by Smith and Beck. The father/son race wem to Mike Baker with Papa Dallas as hi. partner. They were given an exceptionally good race by the legendary desert rider Bruce Ogilvie and father Don. who were closely followed by l6-year-old Brian Manley aod hjs dad Bill. This AFM 2&Occ GP rider .. about to 10M the front wheel. Tbe Open race was tbe biggest race of the day and Mjke Baker fought off "Big 0" Ogilvie and number 666 Sixbery, for this win. Ogilvie, riding for Dale's Modem Cycles, was far back in the pack and had to work hard to get around Jay East, Rusty Clarke and Craig Adams. By tbe third lap, Sixbery and Adams began a side by side ride that lasted until the sixth lap, where Sixbery joined Ogilvie who, was rigbt on Baker. They finished 1-2-5, and that close. Baker commented that h~ had tom the gearbox out of his dad's bike and only had tbird gear for that last lap. He was worried because he knew Ogilvie and Sixbery were right there. It held together and Baker took his third win for the day. The 250cc race came next and again, Baker had the lead. Only this tUne he wasn't alone. Sixbery and Adams were at his side. Adams dropped back to battle with Larry Thompson and Sixbery took the lead from Baker. Baker gave it his all but both he and machine were beginning to tire. His Yamaha had half the rear spokes missing and the three previous races were catching up with bim. At the finished it was 666, Baker, Adams, Thompson, Don Miller and Warren Barr. Steward, Smith battle at AFM WIllow Springs RR By Lori Tyson ROSAMOND, CA, JUNE 21 7- In the 110° heat of the California desert, the American Federation of Motorcyclists South held their last race before the upcoming AFM/Budweiser 6·Hour race July 2526. The blistering heat caused brain fade in many a rider, adding lots of unintentional dirt tracking to the program. However, there were some very close matches witb the winners really working for their tropmes. In tbe 450cc Production race Howard Monise took the holesbot to lead the first balf of lap one, but missed a tum up the hill and spent the rest of the race playing catch-up, never regaining his lost time. Kjrk Graves took over the number one spot with Tom Maggard right on his tail. After a tough battle, Graves held on to the lead and took the win. Production racing was great in all tbree classes. In the Open class it was Chris Steward and Cycle Tune's Dennis Smith in from, putting out a lot of effort in their battle for the win. After a fantastic show, Smith took tbe _number one trophy, but Steward was not far behind. In the 750cc class, Dennis Fryer and Champion's Mike Krolick diced it out, with Fryer finally taking it. The 600cc class showed Whitney Blakeslee (also of Champion Motorcycles) and Francis Mazur, both ,on GPz 550s. going for the flag. In the end Whitney was triumpham and Mazur had to settle for second. In the O~n GP match, Ducatimounted Kevin Bracken and Lee Fleming. on a turbo-charged GPz 550,
