Big bore sports/touring enthusiasts here in the
U.S. were left gnashing their teeth in 1980 when
Honda introduced a 900cc sports machine in
Europe, but the U.S. version was another in a
34 long line of "customs."
Honda corrects that with the
introduction of the 1981 CB900F,
a sportin' machine well suited for
a little is-this-how-Freddie-doesit go-fasting, and civilized enough for
a run to the horizon.
Honda admits this bike win be competinS in a world of 1100s and 10005.
But they defend their strategy with a
lower initial purchase price and the
general insurance break for motorcycles
under I OOOcc.
The powerplant residing in the frame
is a 902cc DOHC four-val~-per-cylin
der four. Four 5%mm CV Keihins feed
fuel into the Honda Pentroof"' combustion chamben. An accelerator
pump aids response.
The CB900F is equipped with an oil
cooler. A lip. or spoiler. on the front
fender directs air right at it.
