Thank you Malcolm Smith, Bell H~lm~ts, PJ I, T~rrycabl~, Works P~rformanc~, Hawks Leath~rs, J&M Trophin and Mick KI~in. W~ couldn't hav~ don~ it without youl ED MICHETTI DOUG HALL' DeAnza Cycl~ Park Sunnym~ad. CA Thanks from CRC . On behalf of th~ 5500 participants in th~ r~c~ntly concJud~d Budw~i~r/ Yamaha Dunestown rac~ series, w~ would lik~ to ~xt~nd our v~ry appr~ ciativ~ feelings toward tho~ who mad~ th~ six ~vents such a tremendous success. W~ cannot put together a fine rac~ program without a strong support of others and w~ received exactly that strong supportl From the participants, th~ major sponsors Yamaha and Budweiser, to the prizes and contingencies donated by IRC Tires. Kal-Gard, ND Spark Plugs, KRW Helmets, CEET Racing Products, everyon~'s support was super. and from. all th~ panicipants, "Thank you." W~ at CRC would also lilt~ to point out th~ special duty turned in by th~ participating motorcycl~ parks. From th~ beginning of the ~ries at Indian Dunes, to Edwards AFB, Saddl~back, Carlsbad and Arroyo, ~ach track was prepared with more than usual enthusiasm from ~ach of th~ park's maintenanc~ crews. And w~ off~r a special thanks to Walt James and his t~am at Indian Dunes for th~ long hours spent preparing for the final~ of th~ ~nes, "Dunntown" on May 51. That special ~£fort was gr~atly appr~ ciated by mor~ than 1,1 00 entri~ and th~ 5000 spectators who. participated in that final fling of th~ ~ries. If th~r~ is anyway to pay back all our sponsors. th~ first would b~ to purchase their products. If w~ do this, w~ are quit~ sure that all these fme. sponsors will be back again with another California Racing Club series, and they will be joined by eYeD more support from th~ industry and eYeryODe will benefit for th~ bett~r. Again in addition to th~ 5500 "thank·you" notes from the partici· pants, you can add on~ mor~ from CRC. JACK BARBACOVI CRC Carson, CA Dirt bike family in Fontana? Do you live in th~ Fontana ar~a (Rialto, Bloomington, Cucamonga)? Want a riding buddy? Want to join a dirt bik~ club? Want to sav~ gas money? If you said, "Yes, yn, yes, yes," maybe you can suggest a "name" for this not·yet-formed dirt bik~ club. W~ may be four or 40 - but it it no fun riding alon~. MX, Enduro. Desert. GP, Play - What~v~r Fontana needs a dirt bik~ family. ED BILLINGS P.O. Box 695 Fontana, CA 92555 714/829-4291 (Days only.) Rickey's ride Can you believe it? European bikes up less than four percent of th~ registrations in the U.S. and already we've had scores of calls about our rid~ on Sunday, June 28. And the phon~ keeps ringing off the hookl , All European bikes are welcome. And yes. Virginia. English bikes tool So wipe the oil off the CalCll. and tickl~ thOle carbs, and ride down to Costa Mesa on June 28 for no miles of excitement. See the Cycle News Calendar for more information or call m~ at 714/651-0450. RICKY RACER .Costa Mesa, CA mak~ I would lilte to voice my opinion on the proposed AMA ruling concerning restricting the 7505 so that the 5001 will be more competitive. Who is the AMA trying to kid? Th~ 5001 will be no more competitive than they were in 1968, when the old rul~ was in effect. They could put Iawnmower carbs on an XR750 and it still could outrun a KR. Harley any day of the week. and yet in the late '60s the KR showed a ddinit~ advantage over the 500s on the mile tracks. Leave the rules alone; if the Japanele want to be in professional din track racing then they shou1d build a 750 strictly for dirt track racing that they can sell to the privateer. much like Yamaha used to sell its road racer twins. They seem to come out with a new type street model every time you tum your head, so it really doesn't seem lik~ an impossibility to build a competitive dirt tracker if they really wanted to. It all boils down to the same old standard in every type of motor racing: You have people who have no undentanding or knowledge of pro· fessional racing making all the rules. I feel that if the AMA doesn't ~ ~t. ' coed around and start listening to the majority of the racers on what should and should not be in the rules, then th~ future of professional din track looks bleak for rider and spectator alilte. M.L. RESWEBER Billings, MT 0-38 family update In my baste to get the results or our D·58 Benefit race to Larry Woodruff so he could write his story, I neglected a very important group of racers thOle who rode only the family loop. I apologize. Jerry Mathis on his Penton ICOted the lowest number of points followed by Brad Lord on a Honda ATC. who edged out James Walker on a 250cc Kawasaki by six points. PaddJo<;'~DS, 10. on his Mini was next fo by Jeff Beeh, Danny Walker and Mike Hillerman (second ATe). Rounding out the top 10 were Mark Neff. Adrian .Collins. and Larry Delaney. I thanlt all the family loop racers for their help in making our race It '1Uc:cesa and apologize for not including them ~arlier. FUDPUCKER AMA D·58 President Chula Vista.
