All of the serious racing happened in thelack; Jerry Farmer was on the gas an riding wild. He palled Gatlin and moved in on Curry but did not find the Honda rider as easy to shut out. Farmer and Curry got into some e101e-formation flying that left Curry with no skin on the back of one hand. In front of the stands, Curry jumped too far and landed on the face of the next jump, jarring sore ribs. John Ham and Farmer both got around Curry, along with David Stutu. Ham, riding a 2!)0 for the first time, gaSlled his Suzuki past Farmer only to fall and re-enter the race in sixth. This left Farmer second and StutU third. Both riders looked super fast but Beck· ham, who looked slow with smoothness, was running away. Beckham won the moto followed by Farmer, StutU and Curry. Ham squeezed into fifth on the last lap. With more than a little UlIistance from a new back tire, Beckham grabbed the lead again at the start of the second round. StutU powered his Yamaha into llecond followed by Farmer and Ham. Beckham ran an· other untouchable race, no one even came e101e. It was like watching a Maico advertillement. StutU stayed solidly in second, even though Farmer got e101e a few times. Farmer and Ham were waging a see· saw battle, Farmer wiclting it past Ham, only to crash and start over again. At the checkered flag, the order read BecJr.ham, StutU, Ham and Farmer. Becltham took the overall victory, StutU playing runner-up and Farmer holding third. In other action, Robert Krock from San Antonio took both motoa of the 2!)Occ Novice class when challenges from Austin regulars Paul Horton and Jim Kindred failed. Austin's Rusty Bum, however, was once again unde· feated in 12!)cc Novice action. Bums, who will move up to Intermediate next week,-was challenged by Kevin Farmer. Results MINI JR: 1. In the past month, he and he crew have prepared the track as many as three times ID a single week, only to see all the efforu washed away on Saturday night. But their efforu this past week were worth it all as Mother Nature finally cooperated, and a full program of races were held tonight. With the track in great shape, newly graded and all, the Mico Minis took to the oval. Young Scott Williams put on an excellent display as he bliued the field on his Soul Man's Bar·B·Que Suzulti. The !)Occ clUlI saw Trace Polson, on his Kissinger Auto Supply/Motorcycle Specialties Yamaha win the first of two claSlles. Greg Teague (Yam) and Bubba McCoy (Yam) had a tight race for second with Teague coming out on top at the firmh line. The 60cc race was contested by only three riders, and Polson took it for his second victory of the night. The 80cc clUlI was really dynamite as Shane Jolly (Yam) had aU he could do to stave off attacks by Todd Haas (Yam) and Alan Powers (Yam). The race wasn't decided until lap number eight of the 10·lapper when JoUy took command and extended his . lead to over five lengths ahead of Haas. Duane DuVall (Yam) was a real jet as he smoked the 12!)cc clUlI, but 2!)Occ Sporuman, where he usually does well, wasn't in the cards for him as James Harrington on his Motorcycle Specialties Yamaha pushed it to the limit for the win. The 2!)Occ Sportsman cI_ was the largest of the evening and some great in·fighting took place back in the pack between Greg Harrison on his Remington Enterprise.sponsored Honda XR and Tubby Dotson on his llelf'prepared Dallas Yamaha. The two were puahed hard by Jimmy Tarlton's Soul Man's Bar·B·Que Bultaco, but when Tarlton broke, the way was clear for Harrison and Dotson. The 2SOcc Expert c1ass was relatively small but well raced as Charlie Orr lfted up to his Low Bucks Racing Team motto of «When the green flag drops ... the bull .... stopsl" (By the way, your old reporter wouldn't mind having one of LBRT's shiru with that motto on it!) Orr took his Yamaha to an impressive win as he was pushed pretty hard by young ROIl Duncan out of Carter's Yamaha. Crazy Alan BIacJr., also Yamaha·mounted, was in the contest to the very end, and as soon as he can find more hOrllepower, he'll be real hard to beat. The Open Expert clUlI was again small, but you'd never know it as Greg Harrison (Hon) and Mike George (Yam) roared their thumpers around the oval. Chuck Prichard out of Benton, AR kept up with the local boys on his llelf-sponsored rr Yamaha, but the older racers' experience relegated the youngster to third. The Grand Finale was opened up to any and all riders by race official Eddie McCoy, and 10 riders took their handicapped spou around the track. Jimmy Tarlton had his Soul Man's Bar-B-Que Bultaco back in order and given the advantage of advance placement on the track, caught up with the 1%!)s and fought off the Experts for the win.
