IV.,,~ Peterson returns at cMc Ascot MX By Tom Corley GARDENA, CA, MAY 28 The king of the 125 and 250cc Pro classes at Ascot, Todd Peterson, returned this evening to see whether or not he was still capable of beating the competition after a foot injury last month. Now ready physically, Peterson entered both Pro classes and picked up two first place cash awards, these being the first yet this season. By far, the most exciting moto that Peterson was involved in was the first moto of the 125s. Doug Bowers shot out ahead but soon John Chwastyk, who won last week, took over the lead. Peterson was back in third and malting every effort to move up. He finally got by Bowers on the small jump that has a trash can to the right of it. The two riders were charging towards the can, one of them had to give and it was Bowers. Doug veered to the extreme right and went off the track. Peterson took over and ,..as after Chwastyk. He finaUy caught John on the comer before the fmish and hooked the inside line for the win over Chwastyk and Bowers. In the second moto Todd had to compete against the Roost Factory ace Frank Pilato but came out of it ahead of Frank while Bowers was third, fol· lowed by Dave Hamada. On the pay· off list it was Peterson, Bowers, Pilato, Hamada and Chwastyk. Peterson went for two straight moto wins in the 250cc Pro contest as well. Dave Gerig took a fall which ruined his chances but still Dave took third overall behind Russ Wageman. • Results 110 JIl: 1.
